Hey Thanks John, I did remove the two bolt that hold the steering column up but you are saying there are some bolts in the firewall that have to be removed also, do you get at them from inside the car?
Well, Thats what I get for typing so fast:rotfl, its a Rag Joint and it is the couple between the steering wheel and the steering box, I have never heard of a Rag Foint either. ;LOL
Hey in the middle of replacing the rag joint and got stuck. I got the old one off of the steering box but can't get the steering wheel arm to move up or down so I can get rag joint off. Do I have to unbolt the steering box to get it off, or how far back should the steering wheel arm move? I have...
This will not be easy and I sure someone will come on post a better answer. I have never had this problem but I understand you have to work you hand and a screwdrive down to the latch and manually release it, do this from the wiper tray. Not sure on a 71 but on my 76 its a real PIA. Good Luck...
It was pretty stright forward when I did mine, started just like you are. The only issues I had were getting the u joints to sit all the way down in the mounts, wait I just saw the you have the flanges already installed so that should make it a simple job, Just go slow and you should not have...
I have used a producted call "General Purpose Adheisve Remover" I get it a the local hardware store "Ace Hardware" but I know Home Depot also sells it. It works pretty good but not 100%, hope it helps.
Yours are a lot different then mine, I do not have those metal parts that the fasterners are hooked to, mine attach directly to the liner, but it seems like you should be able to get them cleaned up ok and repainted. I use general purpose adheisve remover to clean up the glue and lacqure...
Not sure but if both tops have the same types handles I would assume that you need them replaced on both.
I finally removed my top last Friday after having the new handles on for a month and still not a peep or squeek out of them. This is a must for anyone that has a noisy top.
The ones on my 76 are a dense foam material coved in vinyl. Mine just snapped off they are held on with a velcro type fasterners. I cleaned mine up with general purpose adhesive remover and painted them with vinyl paint and they look great. I did not use new fasteners just cleaned up the old...
Great info due to the weather the pump has not arrived yet but I expect it today and nope to get it changed this weekend. Luck me I did not have any problems with the gas spill no fires just a bad smell for a day or two. Thanks all.
I read in one of the install manuals that you are suppose to remove the bolt in the lower rigth corner next to the forward bold holding the pump on and replace it with a longer bolt this is supposed to hold the push rod in place while you replace the pump, anyone heard of this?
Ok did it again this weekend but I was watching and the fuel was coming from the fuel pump, new one ordered and will install as soon as it arrives, any pointers and advice on the install, it seems pretty stright forward.
Thanks
