Hi Dawn,
The hardest part of the whole operation was changing the PW Motor gears, teeth & Assy while the whole door & window remained intact. The actual changing of the motor is relatively simple, especially since you have the doors all the way disassembled.
I would buy the new motors if I were...
Hmmmm...
Hi Dawn, I am curious as to how the windows got out of the car.
Did you have the tint professionally done? Did you or the shop take the doors completely apart? The reason I ask, if they took them apart they ought to put them back together again.
But...regardless.
If they are...
Those are actually pretty decent numbers on the factory heads. I too have the performer intake/carb combo. I too ran about the same dyno numbers as you for HP. But, my torque readings were a bit higher. It sounds like your dyno was on a Mustang Dyno? Yes, no? That'll tell you a lot about your HP...
RE-Cap, for those who care
1980 Power windor repair. Stripped Gear.
WOW!!! This was by far the most difficult of any Vette repairs or mods...
Since the teeth on the regulator gear were slightly stripped, I went ahead to Ecklers and bought the "Regulator Gear Repair kit" ($34) Item# 27487...
Thanks so much for the advice above.
I finally nutted-up and decided to tear into the door last night. I got it all apart...
I did order the new PW motor gear wheel & regulator gears from Ecklers last week (still waiting:ohnoes). I'll just tear it all back apart & see if the new parts offer a...
Wow...That is a great photo. Can a person remove the inner "Shell" of the door like that? That photo exposes the whole ensemble.
None of my books show how this inner shell can be removed. Do you have to "crack open" the seams somewhere?
Oh...If I know that it's just the motor gear & main...
REVISED REPAIR TUTORIAL LISTED on final post BELOW:
..."OH SH*T!" My window gear just gave out.
1980 with Power windows...
So, I'm doing the correct method of reading the AIM & mechanics book. But in neither of these does it show how/what the h#ll to do when the gear strips out and the...
I don't remember the torque numbers but it was low like the HP. It really pointed out how neccessary it is to have all of the aftermarket doo-dads "Match up" correctly. With the slight aftermarket cam, performer intake & performer carb going through the crappy@ssed shorty headers then into a Y...
Yesseree I did. You may remember last year I posted the thread regarding the anemic HP ratings I did at our local Club Dyno Day. At that time my Vette had a slight cam, new edelbrock Performer intake & 600 cfm carb combo, shorty stock headers. The car is an automatic, AC, PS & PB and kicked out...
Dual Update
Hello,
I have removed the shorty headers and put Stans Tri-Y headers, true dual 3" exhaust to MagnaFlow 40's. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why didn't I do this when I first bought the car!?!?!
That was THEE BEST ENGINE MOD I could have ever done. Plus, not only has HP shot waaaaay...
I have done the front end on my 80 Vette.
Good place to start:
Q: VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OVER 50mph:
A: Get all 4 wheels balanced by a good wheel shop (usually free to $20)
Q: Excessive slop/ loose wheel/steering:
A: Steering box rebuild (ask forum member GTR1999 or check archives)
This...
You're going to get 25 different answers here. BUT...For what it's worth, on 74 to 82 C3's I personally like a "Meatier" looking tire to adequately fill out the wheel well. I use a 255/60 15in.
They just look more mean & musclular.
AP
All correct.
The control valve wasn't factory pre-set worth a squat:eyerole
But, the alignment shop took care of it while they were doing a 4 wheel alignment.
Whew...I am happy to report that this steering setback is (presumeably) over.
No major injuries or huge financial setbacks...
