Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

Thank you Tom, I believe that this will be my last post on this subject, as I think it is solved. The car starts up immediately as soon as I turn the key. My next question WAS going to be about the starter wrap (can it be installed without some other unexpected effects?), but Tom seems to...

Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

This is not intended to be my last post on this subject, but just to keep up to date, I had the Vette inspected the other day and had a couple things done while it was in the shop. Since the shop across the street from me, and I'm past 70 years old, I asked the guys to do a couple of simple...

Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

Referring to response #9 from Tom Bryant; thank you! I do not have a lot of time today, (I'm working) but I thought I should acknowledge your welcome input. I briefly typed, "Starter Wrap" into the Summit site and found a selection of heat shield types of wraps. Now, among other things, I have...

Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

Since I will be working for the next few days, it will take some time to check the battery (and the alternator as long as I'm at it), but I will post back once I have some more info. BoDill

Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

O.K., I went on the Internet and read up on heat soak. I am certainly not sure that heat soak is my specific problem, but it might be, or at least a part of it. So...next on the agenda would be a heat shield of some sort; perhaps a curved plate that fits between the starter and the headers...

Help! Cold Start but no Hot Start

I have the same problem; cold start is great, hot start is not. I have a 65' 327 with tube headers, but the pipes do not APPEAR to be too close to the starter. I will double check everything mentioned above (which I have done before), but if all else is good, is there some kind of heat barrier...

    Warm engine misses

To Tom Bryant and all, First, thank you Tom for good advice. Next, to all, since my Vette is running at the moment, and there is not much sunny driving time left in Upstate New York, I will drive it for now and have plenty of time to decide on what to do next over the winter. I would like to...

    Warm engine misses

To all, It's been about three weeks since my last post on this subject, because I finally turned the Vette over to a reputable shop (C.A.R.S. in Cortland, NY) and told them what I had done so far, including a half-hearted "rebuild" on the carb, AND I gave them the Holley Rebuild kit that I...

    Warm engine misses

To All, especially 65TripleBlack, Today I pretty much discouraged myself from installing an electric fuel pump. With that in mind, I started reading articles on the Internet regarding mechanical fuel pump failures and quickly found this; "Warning signs of a bad fuel pump. 1. While driving...

    Warm engine misses

To c5vette (it's about midnight my time, but I want you to know that I'm paying attention), My number 1 post regarded changing the plugs. During the next month-and-a-half or so of posts, I tried new plug wires and they didn't change anything. Since my old plug wires appear to be in excellent...

    Warm engine misses

To 65TripleBlack and all, Since it may be awhile before I get to this stuff, I thought it wise to let you know what's up now. First, I don't have a camera (or a cell phone!), so posting photos might take awhile. In the meantime, there are multiple websites concerning the "reading" of spark...

    Warm engine misses

To All, As a courtesy to all who are following this thread, this post is simply information that may take awhile to have an effect; I just bought an electric fuel pump and a cover plate for the hole in the block where the old fuel pump is mounted. I am certainly not sure that the fuel pump is...

    Warm engine misses

To 65TripleBlack and all, About a month-and-a-half ago, my 65 Vette started "missing", after about 12 years of trouble free service in a northern climate, where it is stored all winter and driven mildly all summer. It has a small block with an Edlebrock intake manifold and a Holley 650...

    Warm engine misses

To All, First, I have left a notice on my other thread, "Holley Help", and told people to look at this thread, as it has begun to encompass all the problems (both fuel and ignition). As of this afternoon, I just drove around after doing a carburetor rebuld on my Holley 650 Double Pumper...

    Question: Holly help

To All, Since I now have two threads going, I'm going to stop using this one and put all my questions and/or information on the "Warm Engine Misses" thread so look for me there.... Thanks all, BoDill
