I have a 1970 Corvette. I have a noise in the FM radio when the antenna is installed. When I remove the antenna the noise is gone but I am limited in reception. Any ideas?

:confused Having trouble installing heavy duty after market springs. Springs do not match the original and will only rest in one of the mounting stops. If I cut spring on one end about two inches, it will then rest in both stops. Thoughts? Comments?
