What was the reason for the rebuild??

I plan on getting the TTi stage 1 turbo kit and running 6-8psi. I will go to the track on occasion but no slicks, just going to run street tires. Is it worth it to hold out and find a nice 01' or newer car or will the earlier transmission hold up if I dont abuse it? Or just buy this really nice...
