Just to wrap this up I finally got some time to finish this earlier this week and 7.5 qts was the amount it took. Thanks to everyone who offered help/input. On to the next project/repair...
Update
the local advance auto parts (nearest my house) only had a rubber one. Got an earful from the guy behind the counter on the evils of cork when I just mentioned it. the rubber went on fine and no leaks so far. My new confusion is on filling. I put in what the shop manual calls for...
toptechx6, thanks. I'll stick with just the gasket and proper torque. As for the filter seating, I took a look and it turns out there wasn't the old oring left behind. Either the new filter came with an extra long two piece seal (one reddish orange and one black) on the filter stem or when I...
I am in the process of replacing my 1986 C4 transmission filter and gasket (the car has the 700R4 auto). The gasket was baked to the pan and crumbled away, probably explaining most of my fluid leakage. I think it was original or close to it. Anyway I bought an AC Delco TF235 kit (filter and...
Follow up question
CarDemon04 - Did you locate it? I realize this was a few years back but I'm trying to find the horn relay on my 86 too. I can't seem to locate the relay from looking up and under on the driver side (how i got to C104 while following the FSM diagnosis directions).
My FSM...
Thanks, that picture is worth a thousand words. Based on my measurements last night my timing is at 4 deg BTD instead of the 6 deg BTD called out. Time to adjust it and then on to check/replace the spark plugs and fuel injectors.
These are the timing marks on my 1986 C4. They don't quite match what is shown in my FSM. For one there is not rust in the diagram in the FSM.
I think this is how to interpret the marking but if anyone can confirm it would be great:
The valley in front of the hole is 0 degrees. The first...
Boomdriver - Thanks. I'll go through the FSM and look through the troubleshooting flow chart with regards to the misfiring/rough running. It may take me a little while to work through it all since this is my daily driver. I'll post whatever I find.
I didn't realize that about the A/C...
I'm looking for help on two issues.
1) I think my A/C compressor clutch is beginning to fail. Is there a way to verify or check this and can just the clutch be replaced as opposed to the whole compressor (or is that not worth it)?
On two separate occasions when I've started the engine with...
I got it from autopartswarehouse.com. At the time of ordering they had the best price. I also ran a google search for coupons for that site and found a few that were applicable. I may have been able to for other sites as well but didn't since autopartswarehouse.com was the cheapest to start...
Issue Resolved
Last night I got the blower motor control module and put it in. For those wondering the best price I found was $149 with free shipping. If anyone has a list of online vendors they use for C4 parts please share. I was having trouble finding sites who had it given it seems this...
Boomdrive - Thanks.
I pulled the control head again and looked at it. It is a "Factory Authorized Remanufactured Module". The horizontal board looks good and I re-cleaned the contact there to the front panel and the wiring harness at the back. The front panel won't seperate - it's a one...
Thanks GMJunkie - I'll check them next. Since I don't have a wiring diagram and I imagine there are plenty, any suggestions of known grounds with a high probability of getting fouled/loosened?
Hi - I have an 86 coupe and am new to the forum. Recently my HVAC system stopped blowing air. The car has an electronic control module (possible rebuilt/refurbed). I don't know if it's the C60 or C68 that I have seen referenced in the forum. The temp control seems to work fine, though it's...
