    Help! Brake Noise

First thing to check is to make sure that the pads have the anti-rattle clips installed. They are one of the pieces of hardware which were referred to, and their keep the pad/caliper assembly from moving up & down in the mounting bracket.

I haven't done this myself - maybe soon - but I have this bookmarked: link

    J55 Heavy Duty Brakes ?

J55 is pretty much 13" rotors and the calipers/hardware to accommodate them. They became standard equipment in '95 or '96, but 12" rotors were standard before then. Other than that, appearances are quite similar.

    Bilstein Shocks

The improvement in my case was so dramatic that I can't attribute it all to choosing the Z51 replacements over FE1. I wish it could be quantified somehow, but I'm honestly not familiar with how the originals should have felt. I just know that it would not have included the sensation of...

93 rear brake pads replace/parking brake

Not that I would advise someone not to follow the FSM instructions, but I will say that I have skipped that part with no problems. Once when replacing my pads/rotors and again later on when doing the bearings. Our driveway is steep enough to punish me for screwing this up, so I'm comfortable...

    Bilstein Shocks

From the horse's mouth: product search at bilstein.com Base susp. Rear: F4-B46-2054-H0 Base susp. Front: F4-B46-2053-H0 Retail vendors may list the Z51 equivalents as "Sport" & FE1 equivalents as "Heavy Duty" as shown in the link. It may have been early compared to typical, but I...

    '96 displaying "SYS" light ?

Much better & good to know. Other than the last item, those are easy to overlook without the FSM in hand.

    '96 displaying "SYS" light ?

So give a little more detail & educate us then. I'd like to know what I missed. I have retrieved "SYS" codes that way in the past (with the FSM for reference) and it worked out fine.

    '96 displaying "SYS" light ?

...as pointed out when I first posted it. :beer It's hard to find concise information for 1996, because the service manual itself is misleading on the subject.

    '96 displaying "SYS" light ?

The procedures in the website I posted will retrieve the codes which the SYS message is alerting you to. The text covers all years, so you'll have to scroll to the end for 1996. For the earlier years, it also applies to the ECM codes signalled by the "Service Engine Soon" light, which is why...

    '96 displaying "SYS" light ?

"SYS" indicates that one or more codes has been set in the CCM. Battery issues and aftermarket radios (they disturb the dimming circuit - mine does this but I haven't bothered to do the fix) are the most common causes that people post about, but there could be a fault in any of the systems that...

    LT4 96 LT4 I just bought...

The serpentine belt is a piece of cake. BUT... in addition to the tight clearance between the tensioner & crossmember, I found that the orientation of the hex on the tensioner bolt may restrict your available motion between the air intake and A/C pipes as you try to turn it. After trying a...

    Polo Green with "other" rims?

Thanks. I've been thinking lately that the Z06 style might be better if I had it to do over again, but not so much now that I went back and dug up that second shot.

    1994 or 1995 6 Speed Corvette???

While I have a suspicion that optispark woes are a bit overblown because of the internet, it is still worth remembering that they were improved for '95-'96 and not quite as susceptible to failure due to moisture. If '95 is in your price range, it may also be worth it to hold out for a '96 with...
