They make a special tool to take the clip off but a small screw driver will work just fine. unfortunetly this is the easiest part of the job.

Take lots of pictures and label everything when your taking it apart makes it alot easier to put it back together. an assembly manual helps alot as well.

I bought one from an online vender, dont remember which one, it was a lectriclimited harness and fit and quality where great. The starter harness came separate on mine so you may want to check into that.

Its a PITA for sure i did my 79 a few years ago. a FSM is a must IMO and a friend to help out. Theres a tunnel insulator you can buy thats avaliable from different venders. i believe it goes mounted on the underside of the tunnel over the transmission so this would be a good time to install one.

Just an idea but did you put all the plug wires back correctly?

Most if not all cars have drain holes on the floor pans that are capped with a rubber plug maybe one of the plugs is missing.

Not sure on these cars but some foreign manuf.(toyota) ingrave the key code on the pass. door cylinder.

try putting back the old alternator if you still have it and all that was wrong with it was a broken ear. :w

i had a similar problem on my 79. it turned out to be a loose vacuum line going to the back of the switch.
