FWIW, mine doesn't have an emission sticker on the bottom of the hood, or on the firewall as some older models did. Never had one, so some may have slipped by without it. Original California car, purchased from MacGruder Chevrolet in Palm Springs.
So they never actually made a glove box with vertical dividers designed for cassettes? Guess GM thought 8-tracks were going to have longevity. :rotfl
My '81 came with the ETR cassette radio, and I always wondered if maybe they had put in the wrong glove box in the car at the time of assembly.
I would check the headlight switch, make sure the courtesy lights aren't turned on. I know, kind of obvious but I've done silly stuff like leave my headlights on in the past too.
