That means it is throwing a code. I'll check my manual the next time I go outside to the garage and tell you how to pull the A/C codes from my '95. I'd hope it would be the same for you.
Gulp... Any smoke out of the rear end, especially after initial start up? Open the coolant res while the car is running and look for bubbles. Could be a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into your cylinder head(s). If you see bubbles in the res, while running that is a confirmation.

My guess is air is still trapped in the system. Turn the heat all the way up with the fan on high while you rev the engine to 2000 - 2500 RPMs. Do that for a few minutes. If you have a helper they maybe able to see air bubbles at the res.
