Getting soot in the choke houseing in my mind can only come from the tube inside the manifold being open allowing soot to travel up the choke tube to the choke housing.
I suspect the tube that you drilled out of the manifold and replaced is open and not sealed as it should be. Then when the...
I could be wrong but I believe your choke tube (carb to manifold) has bruned through and is allowing soot into the choke housing. It could also be that someone has installed standard tubing. I believe the choke tube is meant to be blocked off inside the manifold.
At one time I was replacing the battery and sometimes the alternator about once a year. I just now replaced my battery after 7 years, it checked out fine with a load tester but I just got scared of it's age. I credit this to using a battery tender on the vehicle when I would park it for...
I installed a classic air unit on my 64, it was a breeze. The underhood A/C and heater hose attached the same as the standard heater core, right at the firewall engine side. Have they changed how things go together? My install was only about 3 years ago.
No short cut for leaving the door panel on that I know of. 2 tips may help you.... 1. Make sure you use a drill stop when drilling out the rivits, a hose over the drill works great.
2. Bend the tabs out a little, the ones that start/align with the door. And don't install...
I've found something I just have to ask about. Mercedes has in their service recommendation a coolant change interval of 15 years/150,000 miles using their (water/MB 325.0 anti-corrosion/antifreeze mixture). Is this because the engine is aluminum and (not sure) the radiator also? Because of our...
About 4 years ago I installed a new battery along with a green knob disconnect. I use a battery tender when the vehicle is done being driven for the day or whatever period of rest.
My questions....
Will I have any clue that battery replacement is due? Any warning the battery is about to...
Something else that may be of interest to the battery tender users. I hard wired my battery tenders.
On the C-2 I used a RV receptical under the front bumper, this goes back to the tender mounted near the battery. I also use the green battery switch to kill power to the rest of the...
I don't completely trust the one I have on my 89. I'm watching it closely. I will say this, since using a battery tender I've not had to replace an alternator or battery on either the C-2 or C-4. The C-4's are famous for burning the alternators up, too much work for the alternator to...
Take a look at Cetek, I've heard good things about them and am about to switch from Battery tender's to this.

If your deck lid is not marked from prior use of the hardtop make sure your weatherstrip is good. The alternative or additional thing might be the use of the plastice protectors that go between the hardtop and the deck. They are the static cling type plastic. Most of the suppliers...
