Do you know you need gears?
One of mine was really slow to come up. Cleaning the carbon out fixed it for a couple of years.
One gear comes out easy the other one has the pin in the shaft and needs a vice to hold it.
Do a vette headlight motor repair search, one of the on-line articles has some...
If the booster only has a split diaphram you can get the part and replace it for under $50. I found the part somewhere but I trashed the reciept. Look at some of the older part rebuilders.
Only 2 nuts under the master cylinder studs hold the thing together. There is a big spring and the...
Ski_dwn_it, (I can't remember how to spell his name so I won't destroy it)or PCM for less (Alvin) or TJ Wong.
just do a search on them I have heard only good things from people who have had chips done by them.
Or do your own... Look at Craig Moates site. he has all the stuff and with TunerCatRt...
It is a time/distance thing as i remember. like 30mins after the key is on and engine running it does the system test. It opens the egr and looks for a temp change.
My guess with the code scanner plugged in the system didn't do the diag. test
like it was memtioned those sensors are famously...
I can tell people with 87 and earlier cars the J55 13" brakes will fit under 16x9.5 wheels on the Z51 and Z52 cars. Don't use the Grand Sport calipers. I had to file the top of the calipers about 1/16". Used parts can do the conversion for 1/2 what the kits cost.
Brackets are available from...
My 87 had a lazy headlight and it turned out to be caked up carbon from the worn down brushes around the comutator of the motor. I was able to clean it out and now both work the same speed.
Does anyone know where you can get new brushes for the early headlight motors?
JS
while you're at it take a look at all the lug nuts. When I got tired of fooling with the locks and started looking, some of the nuts had badly worn threads. I replaced them all.

OK, I attached some pictures.
I got all my stuff from Daniel Sterns. here's a link to his site. He has good info. From my results his info is not BS.

I have the Cibie lamps. Don't worry, they aren't going to kill your headlight motors. Like I said read his...
The 882 halogen bulbs run so hot the sockets get brittle so they come as a set. Rumor has it you can replace the bulbs with a 162 ??? that are a cheap and easy to find but aren't as bright.
The 882 bulbs are expensive. I bought some years ago and they were like $8 each.

My 87 was easy. Getting it out is the most trouble. It comes out throught the wheel well. Do some searches you might find some pics. Here are some numbers off the package when I fixed mine.

Take a wiff of the smoke. If it's antifreeze you'll get the sweet smell.
It's just old and has hard valve seals. For the agravation just drive it! Take care of it when the engine is rebuilt.
You won't find a 80's vette that doesn't do what you are talking about if it's orginal. Even it...
Have a close look at the halfshaft u-joints and wheel bearings. Those are the big hits. Both are ready to go if they are orginal..
If you see any sign of red or rusty dust around the u-joints it needs all 4. The wheel bearings can be done at the same time on the rear. If you have it done the...
Get these:

a relay kit and some 100/130w bulbs and you'll have light equal to anything on the road.
I did it for $200 total and an afternoon.

Note to all:
I would only buy an alternator with LIFETIME warranty for an L98 car with CS-130 alternator. In the nearly 15 years I've had my 87 it's had 4 alternators on it. I'm not sure how many it went through before I got it. The last 2 were brand new Pep boys units.
I can say I think a...
clean the throttle body and IAC pentel. You may have a TPS adjustment problem or a minimum air screw out of adjustment.
A manual will tell you how to set the adjustments or I think you can do a search and find info.
reach up and push the throttle closed and see if it will slow down. If it does...
The rack has an adjustment. It is almost impossible to adjust in the car. It's has a lock nut and it's on the top of the rack just down past the steering shaft.
The only fluid is the power steering fluid.
Also check the column for slack. The telescope adjuster can be loose.
The inner...
If you don't get an answer here look at thirdgen.org Those guys are hardcore and budget minded. Moates.net has a lot of stuff (if you haven't seen it already!)

The driveshaft u-joints looked like new when I pull them out of my 200K mi street driven 87 automatic. I had to look at them after the 2nd set of halfshaft u-joints.
If you inspect your halfshafts and see any sign of dusty looking red around them they are shot. The red turns out to be the...
I have dynomax mufflers on my 87 with no cats and it has an nice sound. On long trips it's all I want. It's loud enough you have to turn up the radio to hear it at road speed..
I have nothing much to compare it to. I did ride in someone's thirdgen firebird with some type 3" flowmaster with no...
