    Wrong Intake

Welcome back Anthony: Sounds as though you know where to go w/ the oval-rectangle port issue. I remember you from this forum ... as far back as when you were a middie & attending classes on the right coast.:pat Fair Winds & Following Seas, Jack:gap

    Found! Protect-O-Plate

No ... nice car but not anywhere near ready for primetime. Don't have a plan to pursue that at this time; maybe later.

    Found! Protect-O-Plate

Nearly two years since purchasing my 71 roadster, the PO emailed & asked if I remembered him & said he'd found the owners manual and asked if I'd like to have it. Of course I replied; adding I still enjoyed the car & was taking good care of his baby. I didn't pay a lot for the car, nor did I...

    Soft top Cloth VS Vynal

I too understand vinyl is OE. However, me thinks the cloth such as Al Knoch looks superior, fits superior and probably lasts longer. Mine'll probably get a new top within a season or two ... it'll be cloth ... probably Al Knoch. -edit-here's a directly related thread...

Pulled Engine out of my 81 This Weekend !!

Simple answer is No. Most of the critical wear items I suggested are internal and practicality of addressing them while motor in car ranges from very, very difficult to impossible. Cylinder deglaze, piston rings, crank polish, crank bearings are internal. Thorough & internal cleaning block...

Pulled Engine out of my 81 This Weekend !!

John: Situation (if I've got it right): 105K & apparently running great now ... probably gonna keep it indefinately ... pulling motor primarily for cosmetics. Suggested additional labor: Freshen it internally too ... not an all-out overhaul: machineshop-clean block, heads, intake, timing cover...

    Starter problems

Starter off a late model (up thru about 1999) pickup/van with iron heads works real well ... they're very small, light & last a LONG time ... they also have permanent magnets so they do not even have a field coil to fail/get hot/fail.

What is external vs internal balance?

Buy a balancer/damper for a 454 ... same for flywheel. OR ... there is "balance plate" available that mimics the 454 flywheel's cast-in counterweight ... that balance plate is basically a thin eccentric shim that installs between the crank's fw flange and YOUR 350's internal balance (aka neutral...

    Future big block swap?

Ed: Once you're sure you're ready for a hi-po motor ... you have many options ... and exponentially more opinions of what's best. I'm a fan of conventional small block 400-based motors. However, I'm convinced that big-inch LSx motors are the future ... so is GM. GM just debuted their latest...

WINTERIZING ?THIS MAY BE A SHORT WINTER ?

This weather gets screwier every year. Our usual gang of hummingbirds get the heck out of dodge by mid-October ... and they did ... but .. We had a vagrant Hbird show up all by itself on 26 NOV 06 ... last sighted 07 DEC ... that night dropped to 25F w/tough wind ... Hbird not seen since. So...

Help! Is this 1973 worth 4K

If chassis, windshield frame/pillars and birdcage are rust-free and not bent and car is mostly all there ... yes on $3K ... but it still ain't a steal at that. For what it's worth, I really don't recommend any automotive resto project for a full-time student ... not for newlyweds or recent...

December 2006: The Web of Deception

Idonmezwidcheats I'd never heard of WR until I read this thread. At first, I nearly went to their site so I could see for myself ... BUT ... I remembered something ... I don't mess with cheats ... I certainly don't once I know/I'm advised they're cheats. The way I see it, WR cheated. I...

    timing chain

First, sbc/bbc rarely jump a tooth and continue to run. If it jumps a tooth, the chain MUST have a lot of slack in it. If chain has a lot of slack in it, the timing mark will dance around quite a bit if you put a timing light on it. Also, RPM will be unstable at a given throttle position. I'd...

My Rebuild is disappointing so far

CR probably ~9.5-10:1 now ... big improvement. New 476 cam is a bit smaller than Old L82 ... (new 212/222 .435/.460 112.5 lsa ... vs ... old 222/222 .450/.460 114 lsa) ... but shouldn't be any problem here. Combo oughta run great! ... probably 325-335hp at crank. I think it's in the tuneup...

    P&G Gauge

Faced w/ SAME situation here. I've never handled P&G ... but I understand ONE cylinder is tested ... that cylinder has it's rockers loosened or removed ... a hose is connected into that cyl sp hole ... then motor rotated through & its air pumps up a ball in a graduated glass cylinder. I'm...

    ? C4 Rain Coat impressions ?

I rarely post on C4 forums ... this question for an acquaintance with C4 coupe: What brand & source recommended for the flexible canvas / canvas-like "Rain Coat" top to fit C4 coupe? Once a C4 raincoat's installed ... Will any of the raincoat's attaching hardware/velcro etc interfere if the...

Polished Aluminum vs Chrome Water Pump??

Most of the aftermarket chromed pulleys are very poor quality; very thin & weak asian stampings of poor grade steel ... wobble/warp/crack/ break. Best to have good OE stampings chromed. I like an Al wp ... but many of those are truly rated for racing rpms ... and many of those don't flow so...
