stepping up on 63 solid lifter

Hib, I brought this up only because it might be implied from your post that original iron "camel hump/fuelie" heads would not support "400 at the flywheel and about 330 at the rear wheels" since you recommended "modern aluminum heads" in your hypothetical 327 for the OP. 1. & 2. The chassis...

    Using a tap and die

What's to be done with female threads that have slight damage to them? Are you saying that running a tap through them to restore them is not an option? Would running a tap through undamaged but dirty threads necessarily remove any metal?

stepping up on 63 solid lifter

Chassis dynoruns confirmed that my .030 over 327 with ported 461 heads developed 353.8 RWHP at 6300 RPM.

    383 Dyno Results Part 2

Cam Small cam in that engine. Around 230 @ 0.050"? How much do you think that the 2 "bad" cylinders are sapping power? Maybe 20 HP? I would expect to see a 383 with good flowing heads, open headers, efficient inlet tract to make closer to 480 HP.

New Dyno Results: Re-Test of the 383!

    Cam? Small cam in that engine. Around 230 @ 0.050"? The 334 that I built makes 466 @ 6300.

Question: 1962 Corvette camshaft 340 HP

The spec sheet from Federal Mogul shows the CS113R to have a LSA of 110 degrees, which is supposedly identical to the original 097 cam. Perhaps what you meant by "108* lobe separation" is that the cam is ground with 2 degrees of advance, also same as original, which puts the intake lobe center...

    Synthetic or "dino" oil?

OK, "Curve Ball"...........I'll bite. Dispersants? Detergents? Tell us the difference in the additive package which allowed such a dramatic difference DESPITE the syn oil's greater resistance to oxidation. What was the oil temp that these engines were run at, and where was it measured? And this...

Question: Replica ZR1 Style Wheel Lugnuts for 1985

Replica ZR1 Style Wheels: Lugnuts for 1985 Well, I just received my 17" x 9.5" chrome wheels with GS D3 tires from LakeShore Wheel and Tire, but need opinions or suggestions on what kind of lugnuts to use. I can always buy chrome plastic caps for my original lugnuts, which are reachable with a...

    Tire and Wheel Combo

I'm looking for advice on a tire/wheel combo to supplement my original P255-50 VR 16 Gatorbacks. The car is driven in dry weather, and a ultra high performance tire is desired. Can I use an 18" wheel on this car with no "issues"? If so, then that's my choice. Tire characteristics desired, in...

    Clutch Recommendation

John: All linkage components are correct, as well as the TO bearing (short). Clutch action is fine, with smooth engagement/disengagement. Maybe the overcentering is more pronounced now because the clutch is still new. As it wears in , the phenomenon might not be as pronounced. I'll probably put...

    Clutch Recommendation

John, My clutch is a diaphragm type, not a Borg-and-Beck type. Manufacturer is Borg. Sorry for the confusion. I've had many replies, and conflicting opinions as to course of action. I am thinking about changing linkage to fast action, and further increasing freeplay (it is now set to...

    Clutch Recommendation

1965 327/365, slightly modified and runs very strong. Run to redline and beyond occasionally. Need best recommendation for standard duty clutch, but will install HD pressure lpate if necessary. Currently installed, BORG, standard duty kit. Clutch currently overcenters with speedshift above 5000RPM.

    Oil Consumption

Junkie, Castrol GTX 10W-40. Break in oil out at about 500 miles. I like to believe your logic, but pulled pan yesterday. Evidence of moderate scuffing on skirts and lower cylinder walls. Owner states that contamination MIGHT have entered engine during build-up.

    Oil Consumption

Need product names which will cut down on oil consumption. 1 qt/1000 miles is unacceptable for 1967 327/350. Engine has 3000 miles on rebuild. Owner unwilling to re-hone and re-ring.

    Help diagnosing an engine miss.

Is this an LT1 engine? If it still has the original solid lifter cam, then the inlet valve lash should be .030" and exhaust should be .024". If some of the plugs are black, and some are normal tan/white, then you have a carburetor balance problem, or intake manifold leak. LT1 engine should...

    Help diagnosing an engine miss.

What was the condition of the plug? It sounds like you have a wire crossed. You might also have a miss on #4 or #6. Joe
