    Good Jacking Points

FWIW: GM recommends not jacking beneath the C3 crossmember; the crossmember can dent since it is not intended to support the weight of the car. That said, jacking beneath the crossmember is a common, although ill-advised, practice. There is an aftermarket repair kit intended to work the dent...

    Restoring a 1981 C3

I can't quite tell what we're looking at. Is this a door jamb?

    Restoring a 1981 C3

My advice is never to remove a factory installed clip unless it is a 100% necessity and only then after thinking it over three or four times. Are you completely certain the repairs you want to make require the clip to be removed? Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM...

    Alignment

A complete alignment includes both ends of the car. For C3s, the front is aligned, then the rear. The Corvette has an independent rear suspension system. It, too, periodically requires alignment. I believe there is a blurb in your owner's manual about alignment. :thumb

    climate control lights

No. The HVAC controls are not back lit. There is a tiny light at the top of the console above the cluster for this purpose. :thumb

    Question: 1981 Paint

St. Louis factory paint was acrylic lacquer with no clear coat. My advice would be to take the car to an automotive paint shop and let them evaluate what you have. The last thing you want to do is to further damage the finish. :thumb

    1981 Corvette two tone paint......

Almost. 1981 production at St. Louis continued through August 1, 1981. You can Google the last St. Louis built C3. Bowling Green opened June 1, 1981 while St. Louis was still in production and continued 1981 model into October. :thumb

    Is This Original?

Difficult to say. Does your car have the ZX2 optional convenience group? Factory floor mats were part of the ZX2 package. It is also possilbe they were available over the counter at Chevrolet as dealer installed equipment. :thumb

What Say You? Cool or an Abomination?

It's not my car, so what I think doesn't count for much. :)

Question: 1960 Corvette with Factory Option Code 579D (283CI, 315HP - Rochester Ram Jet Fuel Injection

Not particularly a C3 question, but the Black Book lists 759 60s with 579D. I am reasonably sure some of these cars have been documented. Have you posted on the NCRS Forum? http://www.ncrs.org/ | National Corvette Restorers Society :thumb

    Hard starting a cold engine

FWIW: Your current carburetor is not original. 81s used the "electronic" Qjets because of the computer. :thumb

For CE owners - paint question

The AIM shows assembly, not disassembly. Just the same, knowing how things went in is often helpful when taking them out. After all, once you get it out (whatever it might be), it has to go back in. AIMs have enough detail to show experienced assembly line personnel how GM wanted the car...

Excuse me, all 68s have fiber optics. The FO system was introduced on the 68s. :thumb

    Front bra/mask

What "era" would that be? I owned C3s during the time you state. I've never used a bra and I saw far less cars with a bra than you imply. That said, the choice of using one is totally up to you. :thumb

    1981 spare tire and wheel

The 1981 spare was a GM space-saver if you're looking for stock. It is my understanding you can find the wheels, but the space saver tire is out of production. :thumb
