Help! 1987 Corvette Cruise control - Help!

Cruise Control Ok, thanks so much for the info. Really good stuff! The vacuum seems to check out. I imagine it is an electrical gremlin, as I have found a lot of them with this car so far. Thanks, vettebob

Help! 1987 Corvette Cruise control - Help!

Hi guys, 1987 Corvette, 4 + 3 standard trans, cruise control inop. I have a factory manual with supplements on my Christmas list, but for now all I have are the Haynes and Clymer manuals. They are all but useless for electrical problems. I worked all afternoon trying to trouble shoot my...

Help! 1987 Corvette Z51 4+3 overdrive help please...

Overdrive plus dash problem... Hi, Thanks for the input, and I have solved the O.D. setup problem. I also solved the "dash lights going too dim with headlights on" problem by disconnecting the C6 wire on the 32 wire connector going to the instrument cluster. The lights now dim according...

Help! 1987 Corvette Z51 4+3 overdrive help please...

Dim Dash... Hi, Yep, the tail lights work fine, and the instrument panel works perfectly until you turn on the head lights. It is bright in sunlight, and dimmer after dark. And the photocell is reactive to having a flashlight shone on it. BUT, if you turn the headlights on the panel gets...

Help! 1987 Corvette Z51 4+3 overdrive help please...

Ok, thanks. I'm not sure why my colors are whacky either, but with this diagram you have provided I have more to work with tomorrow. My dash display goes so dim you can't see it when I turn my headlights on. It brightens and dims normally, except when you turn the headlights on and then they...

Help! 1987 Corvette Z51 4+3 overdrive help please...

Man, I hope somebody can help me with this.... I have been web/forum searching for hours and can't find it. Trying to get this '87 Vette ready for a trip asap. My books don't have the correct wiring diagram and I can't find it on the net. I want to convert my 4 + 3 to a manually switched...

    Question: Correct tire sizes??

Well that's interesting. Mine is a 1987 Z-51, but it has 245's on the front and 255's on the back. I'll dive under it and check the rim sizes tomorrow. Hopefully the rims are all 9.5" and I can run 4 255 size tires. Thanks a bunch for the feedback! Bob

    Question: Correct tire sizes??

Hmmm... ok, I guess I better measure my rims then. Thanks guys, Bob

    Question: Correct tire sizes??

Hi, My 1987 Vette has 255x50R16 tires on the back, and 245x50R16 on the front. Is that correct or should it have the same size on all four corners?? I need to buy tires, should I go with the 255's x 4? Thanks, vettebob

Question: Overdrive capacity + wheel question.

Hi, 87 Vette with the 4 + 3 trans. Anybody know how much fluid the overdrive takes when changing it? Also, the clear coat is about half gone on my (original) wheels. What is a good way to take the rest of it off without damaging the wheels?? Thanks! vettebob

    87 Overheating with AC On

Hmmm, interesting. Mine wants to run much warmer, and I have heard of so many that do so as well. Thanks for the input, vettebob

    87 Overheating with AC On

What temps does your engine run, both on the highway and in traffic with the A/C on during summer temperatures? vettebob

    87 Overheating with AC On

No wonder... My first Vette, an '87. I just pulled the radiator to clean/service both it and the A/C condensor. HOLY COW!! No wonder everything has to be absolutely perfect for these things to not overheat. It has a tiny radiator that I would think would barely be sufficient for a...

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Ok, thanks for the answers. Pretty much what I expected to hear, but better to research something than find out the hard way! Does anyone know how much lift you can use on a 1987 L-98 before having piston/valve clearance issues?? Thanks again, VETTEBOB

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

A tight lobe separation gives you that cool rumpy idle, and a good boost in low to midrange torque. I would like to have a tight LSA, and lower overall duration so the cam will "behave well" at low rpms in overdrive cruise. On all my other, (admittedly carbureted) hot rods, I have always used...

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Thanks for the specs. How close can you go on the lobe separation before the computer can't be tuned with a custom chip? For example, would a cam with 214/224 degrees .500 lift, and a 110 Lobe separation be useable with a new chip? How about 108 degree L.S.?? Thanks again, vettebob

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Nice page and thanks for the referral. Does anyone know what the camshaft specs are for the 1987 engine? Thanks, vettebob

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Yeah, .06 is very little difference. Mine is the Z-51, which also had a touch lower differential gear. VETTEBOB

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Thanks for the answer. Mine is a 1987 Corvette. How do I verify the ratio/model?? Thanks again, vettebob

    Question: 4 + 3 Overdrive ratio??

Hi, Does anyone know what the gear ratio is in overdrive on the 4 + 3 setup? I am assuming it is 1:1 in four gear without the overdrive... vettebob
