Speaking of Horns....
The horn assembly on my 84 is missing some peices.
Has the Horn Button, The flat plastic peice with wire attached behind the horn button and nothing else.
Isn't there suppose to be a spring between the steering wheel nut and the horn button?
Does anyone have a scanned...
To my knowledge, nothing on the engine is computer controled any more.
Fuel pump is an in-Line elecrical.
Accelerators pumps on the carb are pumping gas normally.
The distributor is an standard late 70s early 80s HEI distributor with the coil in the cap.
Tach was/is functioning normally...
This is what I know about the motor so far.
It's supose to be a new motor with only 4k miles.
It's got a holley and edelbrock intake. Original fuel pump was disconneted because it blew out all the seals on the holley. There is supose to be an inline fuel pump installed now.
Exhaust Manifold...
Mike,
Remember, this is a different motor than the original, and I'm dealing with a Holley Carburator and Edelbrok intake.
Check engine light is always on and has been since I got the car.
I'm not sure that the ECM is sensing anything on the Engine at this point.
I got all the tune up parts...
After the ignition died this weekend, I left the vette alone until this evening.
I cranked it up and it started, but ran very rough. I ran it for about 3 minutes at about 2000 RPM. Let off the gas to go to idle and the engine died. Couldn't restart it.
I'm not sure now what to blame this...
No progress yet unfortunatelly. The car sits outside right now and the weather isn't that great for diagnostics.
I do feel a sick day coming on though.
I plan to take the vette (once running) to a place where I get the oil changed. The offered to do a trans service two weeks ago and I didn't...
The shift from 1st to 2nd takes a little longer than normal and shifts fairly hard. Not neck snapping, but noticably harder that I would consider normal.
RPM at shift does sound higher than normal but I don't have a number.
Gear positions on the console appear to be lined up properly and...
It's third. Arround twenty MPH, the trany shifts once and then never shifts again into 3rd. It seems to downshift ok when I come to a stop.
When trying to shift manually it doesn't seem to have a positive detent in 1st gear. Can't seem to pull the sifter back far enough in to first.
My son...
While out driving around this weekend, my tranmission in my 84 stopped shifting into 3rd gear. Manually shifting would not work either.
Has anyone else encountered this problem before and if so, what was the prognosis?
I dread trying to find a "reputable" transmission shop here in Charlotte...
Carburated 84
Mike,
(Gross Polluter?? Not intentionally)
Fortuantely we don't have the same restrictions here as you do in CA.
No the carb. is not computer controled. The previous owner installed and edelbrock intake and a holley.
Just heard from my son who's a mechanic in NJ and he said...
caburated 84
You brought up a good point about the cat. conv..
The vette failed emissions this saturday. With very high HC and CO numbers.
Does anyone know if the cat. conv. contributes that much to the emissions numbers?
Sounds like a good tune up and some RXP would do the trick.

headlight actuator motors
Thanks for all the advice.
I've just purchased one from Ecklers.
I have to try to get this thing inspected before the weekend.

carburated 84
Mike,
I just took some pictures, and will probably send them via email.
Not quite sure how to display them here otherwise.
My thought was to use something like Edlebrock's Performer TPI for the small block. This one is suppose to be a direct replacement for the carburated...
One of the previous owners of my 84 Coupe replaced the original motor with an carburated 350.
Most of the emissions plumming looks intact, but there are many wiring harness plugs unused.
I'm a little concerned about passing emission tests here in North Carolina.
I would like to replace the...
Fuel capacity
Frank,
My first trip out of my drive way, I ran out of gas on the way to the gas station. I filled it completely and only put in 18.5 gallons.
I had the same questions after reading about the 20 gal capacity.
Ken(kmcewan)
Bill,
After reading one post about corroded contacts on the boards of the cluster, I started pushing on different parts of the bezel, and parts of the cluster started behaving normally.
I plan to take out the bezel and clean all the contacts and see what that gets me.
Sounds like the book is...
I found that one of my head light actuator motors was bad.
Is there sense in trying to rebuild this or just replace the whole unit?
I've also found replacement kits that convert the existing system to a "more reliable" two wire system. Does anyone have experience with these and are they worth...
I'm now the proud owner of a 1984 coupe with lots of little problems. Most of the problems are electrical.
Has any one ever seen all the LCDs on the cluster light blink on and off intermitently. It appears that all the indiviual displays are all working, but nothing reads consistantly.
I've...
