PAY (gladly) to get 4 wheel align--toe,caster, camber..done professionally on a computer alignment. DO not go to some in and out alignment tire shop..find a good specialty alignment shop. And..for most C3 do not use old service shop manual specs..do some on line research for the alignment...

I agree with Tom..others..yes essential to get it right. BUT FIRST get everything else set up and correct..check wheel bearings, bushings, ride height set and even side to side, same for front. A good align really can't be done with failing bushings etc off. Then..my advice is do not use...

I installed a new distrib on 81, 4spd, after removal of all smog, catalytic, computer. So new distrib then would need correct mech advance (24 mech at 3,000) and a vac advance can (8-10 deg) connected to manifold vacuum. SO, got this one..With the custom curve Performance DUI, spark plug gap...

From my looking into this so far..for the 81..options are..used original 81 tube manifolds are available now and then on ebay..expect to pay about $180 to $250 for the pair. Heat shields are also avail..$24 to $70. You can decide if you block off the air, emissions etc if you don't need them...

the allen bolts are a good idea if wrench clearance is too tight. back in the old days we just had the shop put in a Y to an exhaust cut out..totally open..or could have a small free flow resonator muffler on that Y..easy to open or shut off ..can go to back or side..or down..about anywhere..if...
