They're very "sellable". They were used on both 53 and 54 Corvettes, and the 20 or so 55 6 cylinder models.
Value? Depends on condition. I've seen REAL nice ones sell on EBAY for $550+. I've seen average ones sell for $300 +/-. Ones that need work, like broken studs/ears, etc sell for...
Can't help much, but I can say that about a year ago, I helped a friend who had a 68 with a badly rusted frame, actually rusted in half under the doors.
He picked up a 74ish rear frame section. Cut the 68 frame, and grafted the 74 frame on.
BUT....he had to cut the rearmost section of the 68...
I think that if you sent a note to the National Team Leader for 63-4, Carlton Colclough, that he would express interest.
My 54 is close to yours...30 before... #659. Both doors are hand laid. I've got flippers, short exhausts, painted valve cover and 3 bullets for air cleaners. I...
You can clearly see that there are no notches on your hardtop. VERY interesting. I'm no "hardtop guru"... :)
"Conventional wisdom" has always been that the notches were used with the padded doors.. no notches with the "flat" doors.
Neat looking car you have. Love that color...
Every original 63 and early 64 hardtop I've seen had the "notches" or cutouts John mentions. These hardtops were used with cars that had the "pads" under the outside door handles. In early/mid 64, Corvette quit using the padded doors and went to the smooth area under the door handles. They...
All 63's were St. Louis built. AO Smith didn't start building bodies till mid 64....January as I recall. From that point on, there were 2 body build sources. Chuck
Noland Adams' books are considered to be the "bibles" of Corvette resto. He has 2 of them, 53-62, and 63-67. You just MUST buy that book.
Al Grenning's book is recently published, co-authored by Roy Sinor, National Judging Chairman of NCRS. You gotta buy that one too.
Chuck
Not talking about somebody like you. You can actually DRIVE your Corvette. :) You don't have to have a beautifully restored midyear in my book to be called an enthusiast.
I'm talking about cars that have been sitting for 20-30 YEARS. There's a 63 FI roadster sitting in the driveway of a...
I agree with you, Jerry. There are MANY such nuts in and around where I live who have cars under tarps, in sheds, hidden in the woods, etc.
NOBODY will ever be able to buy them. They just "want them"....like to "have them around". I learned decades ago that it's just a waste of time...
Look at the engine block on the bellhousing flange on the drivers side. You should see a number cast ON the block. For 66, it should be 3858174.
Look at the bellhousing flange on the passengers side up near/behind the distributor. You'll see some numbers cast ON the block...something like...
When you used to order lacquer, Riverside Red and Roman Red "crossed over" to Tampico Red. That's what was on the can. :)
They're the same color. Chuck
The NCRS Tech Manuals and Judging Guides are just that....Judging Guides. I've been involved on several occasions with the rewrites of the 63-4 Manual, the 68-9 Manual, and the 53-55 Manual. Frankly there's just TOO much information to put everything in any one manual. If you tried, they...
The EBAY auction ended early because "the item is no longer for sale". I guess it was sold at the dealership, so we'll never know the selling price. :) Chuck
Agree with you 100%, Jerry. I wouldn't buy the car without looking at it or having somebody check it out for me. Also, I wouldn't buy it until I checked the VIN and "ran it".
That being said, EBAY creates "madness". :) Remember the $500.00 BB dipstick that sold? It was the same...
Up to $8300 with 5 days left. The reserve has been met. I'll go out on a limb and say I bet it will go for low to mid teens.
The front bumper "cut out" is an OLD mod....I remember that being the "hot lick" for old customs. Chuck
