    Handheld tuners for C5 LS1

Yeah, do your homework first for sure. I really like the HP and what it can do for me with all the available adjustments, and I think they are about the most reasonable in price. Plus the fact that I get better fuel mileage with the tune, and a much better kick in the butt when I really want...

    Handheld tuners for C5 LS1

I have a Hypertech Power Programmer III tuner installed in my '98 A4 tranny coupe. It was given to me for free, but they can be purchased on ebay, or other corvette forums, etc. in the Part For Sale sections. HP runs about $350 give or take for a new one. Yes, you can definitely firm up the...

    Help! Lug torque specs

:thumb I agree! I torque to 60lbs in a cross pattern first, then go up to 100ftlbs. 12yrs, come 11/3/09, with no cracks or problems.

C5 Corvette Factory Export Front Plate Filler

Thanks for posting the pics! Do you have any idea why the export plate is indented like this? I've never seen this before in any pictures of exported vettes.

    c-5 oils

:thumb:thumb:thumb I agree with Killian!! It's kinda like trying to mess with Mother Nature......it'll get you nowhere!:L I've got over 67K Mobil One miles on my '98, and it's never burned or lost a drop of oil. I change it when the DIC tells me to, normally around 7,000 miles by the way I...

    Hood rubber bumper thingies

Where have you been looking?? Did you call the Gene Culley at GMParthouse? Google for vette used parts, the country is full of dealers and they all have toll free numbers. Those things are common on ALOT of different cars besides vettes. Print a pic of one from online and take it with you...

    Question: California Duster

The blacker the better, according to the manufacturer. I also have several that I've won as door prizes etc. I use the oldest one now on my chrome wheels and engine bay, and my newest one for the paint and glass surfaces. They're made for light dust removal.....not to clean off heavy dirt...

    Polishing stainless steel

Jim, I've got an aluminum battery box cover for my C5. After I polish it, what's the best way to seal it or protect it to keep it shiney? Can I shoot it with some Dupli-Color clear coat paint? What do you recommend? Thanks, Dennis

    I couldn't believe my eyes...

Hey, I sure believe you. When I lived in San Diego, a good buddy of mine bought a 2008 Z06, the dark blue color that year, from Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet and was there when it came off the truck. It had, and still has, the worst orange peel paint job I've ever seen, and the vette salesman just...

    High pitched whine

The early C5 model years had more whiney FPs that later models. I thought they changed to a quieter pump in '99, but not sure. My ol' '98 whines once in awhile, but not really noticable to me anymore and it doesn't do it all the time either. It's nothing I can't live with for sure. If it...

    Getting ready

Is this your first long distance C5 trip?? What's your mileage been running? I've made 4 cross country trips in my '98 so far. Always the best time on the road. Have fun!:thumb

    Hood rubber bumper thingies

Your Dad must really be hard on that car if those dodads are messed up. The ones on my '98 look and feel brand new! Look around a hobby store too or even the home improvement center in your town. You never know what might fit on our vettes! :L

    Sticky Auto Shifter

This has nothing to do with the transmission. What you're feeling is a lazy trans brake solenoid.....the electriacal device that locks the A4 shift lever in Park until you have the key on or started and your foot on the brake. These solenoids can eventually quit working. Mine did more of this...

    Question: Universal Oil Catch Can?

If it's function you want, you can get one at Jeg's for about $49. Unless.... you just like to blow your money, like most vette owners! :L

    Any issues with the 2002-2004s?

My '98 is older, but flawless at 67K miles and it's not a garage queen. I wouldn't trade it for a C6 even up! The vette is just a car, there are good ones and bad ones of any model year, just like any car ever made....foreign and domestic. It's all about condition, condition, condition! ;)

    Whistling Noise

If you're not sure it's the belts etc.....squirt a bit of WD40 on one belt at a time to see if the noise stops. Do the same on the center of each tensioner or idler pulley where the bolt is located. The noise will stop immediately, and you can isolate the noise. Yes, it could be a pulley out...

    1998 AC adjustment?

Unless I've misunderstood you, I'm not sure I agree with you about the temp. selection in the manual mode. In my old '98 it doesn't matter if I select Auto or Manual, the temp knob temp setting is what the system trys to maintain. It's just that in manual the fan speed will never change...

    1998 AC adjustment?

Where do you have the "mode" button set? The one below the "Auto" button. Be sure it's set to the symbol with the arrow pointing to the upper part of the interior(like for vent or bi-level), not defrost or anything else. It seems I once ran into something like you've described because I...

    Cooling issues

Those temps are within the normal range. These cars run hotter due to emission standards from the factory. Just make sure you're fans kick on and you don't have debris clogging the radiator, as was stated before. I had a SoCal friend who just stopped by a tuners shops and had them reset the...
