So it's not the hood style...
I checked out Zips and found out the the 69 hood support bracket is shorter than the 1968 version...
Since my car's assembly date is December 20, 1968 would it be POSSIBLE that it was assembled using some 1968 parts (such as the longer hood support bracket)?
It was off of a 69 coupe - but I am not sure if the bracket is a 69. Mike, would you do me a favor? Would please measure the length of your hood bracket arm on your 68 Vette? I did see that the 68 might have been different.
Thank you... this is crazy.:crazy
I've been doing bodywork and have the big block hood pretty much completely prepped. I have a question. The stock locking hood bracket I have is too long and does not allow the hood to shut.
Unless I drill and tap new holes for the existing bracket (more toward to middle of the side rail of...
I found one at Carlisle. It was cheaper than most of the major Vette catalogs. It didn't fit well - so I bagged that one. I then purchased one from Wilcox - it was also less expensive than most, and fit perfectly.
These are never fun to install. Drop your steering column - and I also...
Did you check the linkage - particularly around the Z-Bar. Something similar happened to me - couldn't get into first gear. It turned out the connector was loose.
Also you could check the area where the shifter linkage arms bolt to the transmission. I was stuck in 2nd gear in my Camaro...
Seems way high for the condition of the car. My friend was able to find a 1979 Vette for $7,000 in great shape --- check it out: http://picasaweb.google.com/1fine69/MyBestFriendSGirlfriend
Take your time. You'll find the car you want.

You are right. My apologies.... long long week it's been.
After my rebuild, I used Valvoline oil that contains zinc to ensure proper camshaft break-in. I've stuck with that oil along with a regular GM filter... no problems.

Not sure if it's the right way to do it or not, but I used a very thin coat of dielectric grease. I was a little worried that it would possibly harm the rubber - but it's held up for two years now without leaks. I don't know how I would have installed the hose without some type of lubricant...
I had the same rationale for installing my radio... I really don't listen to it. I have chambered exhaust which is very loud. However, having something so crappy installed in a car I've spent so much time and effort trying to restore just goes against the grain. It would have been better to...
I totally agree. I have had two of them... the one that's in the car now has an input for an iPod. Both units have been garbage. I am going to opt for a modified bezel with a modern stereo.
Thanks for asking Bill.
I decided to go the 427 route. it won't be a numbers-correct block, but that ok w/me. I'm actually at a stand-still for now. Got hit with a load of other financial obligations... isn't that always fun? Hopefully, I'll be back on track next month.
