Energizer Cam Kit for Big Block Project

Jeff, I've started started the project. Unlike my former rebuild, I won't disable the Vette during the project -- so I'll pace myself and it may take a very long time to complete. How long do you expect to complete your transformation?

I Bought a Big Block Tonight

Yeah, he confirmed that in order to make a 502, we should use a Gen VI block. That's okay, I am getting pretty psyched-up about the 454. Of course, he gave several options.... stroker 496 or 427 using a different crankshafts. Leaving it as a 454 would be easiest, cylinders would still require...

Energizer Cam Kit for Big Block Project

Hey Folks, I just bought the Crane Energizer cam kit (lift: .515"/.515", duration: 272°/272°) for my big block project...

    New 79 Corvette Owner

Congrats on the '79. It's one of my favorites, and is the car that attracted me to the C-3 generation Corvettes... Here's the actual car that inspired me: http://picasaweb.google.com/1fine69/MyBestFriendSGirlfriend :w

    Engine Cranes

I agree. I just put a disassembled bare 454 block on the stand that I used for my 350 rebuild. I'll likely need to get a more sturdy stand when I put it all back together.

Help! Squeaking from the rear end?

Jeff, Did you drive in a series of figure-eights? If not, try that and see if it helps. Ralph

    Another big block conversion question

Years ago, I helped someone install a 454 in his 1972 Vette. It originally had a base 350. It fit without mods as I recall. I just measured the big block, it's just shy of 2 ft long... a couple inches longer than the 350. The front cross member in my Vette has the indentation that you...

Question: Do I Need Different Front Coil Springs?

I currently have VB&P Gymkhana coil springs that are rated at 550 lb/in. Will these springs be sufficient for a big block with iron heads?

I Bought a Big Block Tonight

I'm gonna put it in the Vette. I'll likely put the rebuilt L-46 in the Camaro... then put the Camaro's 350 on Craigslist or something.

    Which looks better?

    Yep. See.. Cheesy. :nono

    Another big block conversion question

There is not a difference in the frames between big and small block Vettes. I am swapping my SBC for a 427 that I've been rebuilding - at a slow pace that my wallet can handle! May I ask why you're going with a 427 instead of 454 -- which would be correct for your car.

I Bought a Big Block Tonight

Today I talked to the owner of the machine shop that will be doing the work. It looks like the Gen IV blocks probabaly can't be bored to 4.447" spec of a 502; he's researching to confirm this for me. There are other alternatives to consider, including a stroker kit. With respect to a 572...

A bit disappointed in my Jegs order

Lori, Take a few minutes and give their customer service a call. I once experienced a problem resulting from shipping, and they sent a replacement out immediately and also took care of the cost for the return shipping... Incidentally, I had the same excellent experience with Summit. Ralph

    Which looks better?

Loose the louvers... QUICK! Too cheesy (in my humble opinion, of course).

    Engine Cranes

    Excellent advice.

I Bought a Big Block Tonight

I took the plunge and bought a 454 big block tonight. So here a new project starts, I am looking at modifying it to a 502. The person I bought it from is restoring a '65 and has an original 1966 prototype ZL1 aluminum block (with numbers stamped on the pad) that is being cleaned up for...

    Summit X or H pipe

The Vette has the 2.5" Mid-America system. For the Camaro, I purchased the chambered tubes, and H-pipe separately, and had the exhaust system custom made. I like both systems. Click on the link in my signature (below) to hear a clip of my exhaust... Ralph

    Engine Cranes

    Yep. Mine looks identical.

    Summit X or H pipe

The Summit H Pipe works great; and you can't beat the price. My best friend installed one on his 79, and I installed one in my Camaro (http://picasaweb.google.com/1fine69/CamaroCheckUp). Someday I'll install one on my Vette - it should help reduce the pops resulting from the chambered...

    Engine Cranes

Lori, Do you have Advance Auto parts stores up there? If so, I got mine from them for about $150. The crane is a heavy beast, so I just unpacked the box, and loaded all the parts in my trunk. It worked like a charm with my '69... just be sure to lift from the side. Sharks have long noses...
