While not being a fan of "The Kluger" as I call him, I have to give him credit for being a good driver. I was at The Glen for the September SVRA event and in the Group 6 race, "The Kluger" just simply blew away the competion. He had a couple of good drivers trying to keep up with his @ss but...
When I bought a "remanufactured" pump for my '69 (new wasn't available), the instructions said not to use ATF but to use only Castrol P/S fluid. Well, no one in my area had Castrol. So I bought another brand (manuf by Valoline, I think) and put that in. This was 2 or so yrs ago and no issues...
The MitiVac unit Sucks. Sucks air that is from the threads of the bleeders. I went thru that phase before I got the Motive bleeder. That is why the pushing effect of the Motive is better than the sucking of the MitiVac. The Miti isn't really cheap in the $30 range. I bought the Motive with...
I have the Dunlop GT Quailifier on my '69. I think this is an acceptable replacement but not anything approaching Hi-Performance. I don't run the car really hard (except when I'm at Watkins Glen doing Antique Auto show laps on the track or running their original street course - lol) or put a lot...
Definately, WHAT HE SAID smiley. Get the motive bleeder. Stop jerking around like we did in the past with getting a helper when you bleed the brakes or when we spend the whole day gravity bleeding. I had brake issued with my '69 last month and had the master cylinder off a few times and had...
My .02. Many say not to replace rotors cause the factory set them up for runout with the hubs attached. But old rotors are old rotors. You can either have them cut to get the glaze off or buy new ones. If they are glazed they aren't going to work properly. You might try emery paper on them...
I'm putting this thread to bed with what happened after a 700 mile round trip to Watkins Glen this past weekend. I've returned the new Raybestos MC to the dealer and we have deemed it a failure. I did not have any low brake petal issues during the trip. I There are times, usually just after...
Congrats on the award. I don't get that show on Long Island. My wife and I went to the event and missed seeing you there. I would have recognized your car for sure. Did you participate in any of the Stone Bridge events? We were in the Logan Ridge Founders tour and the antique auto show event at...
On a C3 69ish vintage with power brakes? I'm wondering if what I have now is "normal" since I put new rotors and pads in because the petal is a lot higher now than before. Now, the petal is "right there" whereas before it seemed a lot lower.
Sometimes tightening old original ie: petrofied gaskets, will result in a worse leak than before. They usually have no compression ability and will crack. I had this problem on Valve Cover gaskets on an '85 S10 Blazer. The leak got much worse when I tried to tighten the valve cover nuts. I...
Questions answered about in brackets.
Looks like the new MC was bad. I installed new rear hoses. I did the fronts last week. After installing the real hoses (after the total brake failure) I could not bleed the calipers with the NEW Raybestos MC. Nothing would come out of the rear calipers using...
The 4 letter word many times. Problems came about when I had the great idea to put new Crypo slotted rotors and Hawk pads on. While I was at it, I put new Front wheel bearings in and resealed the calipers cause one was leaking. After all was done, after driving 5 or so miles, the brake petal...
Correct, older vehicles don't have min/max line markers. I ordered a new master and will pick it up tonight. I can't dik around with this any longer. Sometimes it good, other times not. I'll at least eliminate one variable. Thanks
I turned out by 1/2 turn the bolts holding the master to the booster. Agreed, I shouldn't have to mess with the adjusting rod. The master is still snug to the booster even after the 1/2 turn out. If there is ANY hint of loosing free play on the ride home tonight, I'll just replace the master...
Spoke to VBP tech support
suggested I take one turn out of each master cylinder to booster nut. Also maybe take a half turn -turn out of the push rod in the booster. If it still is NG, then it probably is the seals in the master that swell up which means either a new master or a rebuild of...
