Engine looks more or less level. BUT!!! The A/C compressor pully was chewing into the hood a bit. So maybe your on to something with regards to the engine being down on the left.
While this car has had lots of things messed with by "bubba" over it's life. . .thankfully the pulleys are all original to the car. I checked the part numbers.
The engine does have safety motor mounts with the correct spacers. . .so it's not that the spacers are missing. Did 1972 come with...
I have a 1972 LS5, p/s, and a/c car. Needless to say, the v-belt routing is complex with the P/S pump, A/C compressor, and Alternator. . .all having their own belts. That said, I've noticed something on my car that I'm not sure is correct or ok.
In the top of the front cross member there is...
Working on my barn found 1972 LS5 with PS and A/C. I'm just about ready to start the re-assembly of the front of my engine. In the process I would like to replace the v-belts. Looking at old previously installed belts showed that I have a mix mash of belt brands and dimensions.
My first...
Yes, the seal on the top of the radiator support. . .that touches the hood. Here are some photos of how my new seals installed. See how the new one goes right up to the edge of the hood opening. If I need to trim it. . .no problem. . .just want to be darn sure that I trim it in the right spot.
Can some one with a 1972 LS5 post a photo of the upper radiator to hood seal. . .in particular the ends of the seal and how the are mounted? Right now, mine just wants to rest right up against the hood opening. And I think it will get crushed. Any help would be appreciated.
I actually figured this out about 20 minutes ago.
First I got my hands on a known good quadrajet. . .thanks Hib!!!
After installing it and firing the car up, I found that the car still ran poorly. Still I decided that I should adjust the carbs idle mixture and idle speed setting and see if it...
Hello all!
I'm still trying to root cause my misfire at idle from my passenger side bank. Here is a video of what it sounds like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_pNIEegRt0
The driver side runs nice and smooth. . .and the puffs at the exhaust pipe are all even and nice.
The passenger side...
Hello all!
I've been working on a project car for a while (72 big block). . .and when i finish running it. . .most of the time I would hear a gurgle hiss kind of noise. . .followed by a metal ticking / pinging noise for a few second (may be 15) after the car is shut off. The ticking / pining...
Forgot to answer your question. Way more than I want to spend! :) OE in good condition people seem to be asking in the $500 range. I'm looking for a set for half that. . .and have been for some time. Doubt I will find them. Keep looking for ones that are not broken. . .but are warn enough...
Yeah, the SB (blue car) is a 1970. The BB (black car) is the 1972.
Since your post. . .I've look for info again .. .and you may have been correct. The latest info I found said that all 1970 to 1974 BB's had flat top pistons. So they may not be dished. Only one way to find out. . .I guess...
Really! I thought I read somewhere. . .and perhaps I'm wrong. . .that the drop from 9:1 to 8.5:1 from 1971 to 1972 was dish pistons. I've always assumed that if I wanted to get some power back. . .I would have to increase compression. . .and that I would have to change the pistons to do that...
I believe that it is stock except for headers and a high pressure oil pump. I will get back with compression numbers in order to see if I still have the stock dished pistons.
If it is the stock cam. . .can anyone recommend a cam that would give my engine a more aggressive note. . .based on your personal experience. A performance gain would also be nice.
Funny, I just played the videos back for myself. . .and you cannot really tell a difference in "volume" But trust me. . .the LS5 is not nearly as loud.
Second. . .to me, the LT1 sounds like a mean "ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra" noise, while the LS5 sounds like a soft "bo-bo-bo-bo-bo" noise.
Hopefully...
So I have a 1970 small block LT-1 car with an Allen's Exhaust 2.5" system with their Off Road mufflers. I loved the sound so much that I bought the exact same system for my 1972 LS-5 big block car. After I installed the system. . .I was VERY disappointed with the sound. VERY quiet. . .and not...
No not planning on getting it judged. Problem is that I don't know the size and I don't have any that fit. My assembly manual does not tell me the size.
