So It's probably not the CD-2, because this AM i starterd the car. . .no smoke for about 5 minutes. . .then it started smoking from both tail pipes. It was a smoke fest for 10 miles or so. . .then is became less to where the driver side bank does not smoke anymore, but the right side does.
So...
So i did all tese tests before having the heads redone. The valves were bad and the guides were very loose. I specifically ordered hardened vavle seats, valves, guide sleves, springs and seals. All this was verified by me when i got them back, as i installed the heads myself. The only thing i...
Not sure how that all goes together, but I think the correct year service manual from GM has the detail you are lookoing for.
Also, I'm not 100% sure of how it works in 1975 models. . .but make sure you check the cooper strap in the rag joint. it is very common for the cooper stap to break...
Weird. . .
So yesterday I wrote about how it no longer smoked from the right side. . .and how the it was less embarrasing. Well, I got in the car this am. . .started it up. . .and backed out of the driveway in a cloud of somke. . . again after it go warmed up a bit. The first half of my 20...
Thanks for reminding me to post an update. So i did a lot of looking arround on the web, and came accoss several other forum discussions regarding me exact same problem: Smoke in the following cases, 1) at idle 2) when i pull away from a prolonged stop at a light 3) blip the throttel when at...
Ok. . .so Vittron is what people have refered to as GREEN.
All the ones on Summit are "Bright Blue" which is exactly what I have. So, I cannot see how it would be my valuves then. These are the same color as the ones I have

Ok, update and some final questions.
So I drove the car all weekend back and forth from Bloomington Gold. Never been so embarased to be in my Corvette. Smokes like a junker at idle and when you pull away from a stop.
Now, I had friends follow me arround for a while. Here is what I know.
1)...
I'll have to figure out a way to stop the piston from reaching BDC, as the exhaust or intake valve opens a bit before it gets all the way to the bottom. The LT-1 cam has a bit of overlap.
When doing my leak down test, I used a very large flex head ratchet on the harmonic balancer bolt, and...
Ok that is at least some good news. So Lars (or anyone else), here is some more detail. The engine had a full rebuild back in 1985. The car was driven maybe 500 miles. . .again back in 1985. I bought the car 3 years ago, and the engine tured freely, and started right up. . .after pre-oiling...

Just because a thread is old, does not not mean that isn't valid for people who are looking/searching to solve a similar problem. Since the origional question/concern was never answered (in my opinion) and because people are clearly searching on the subject contained in this thread; why not...
Synthitic gear lube that is not gl4 has sulfur in it when can damage the brass components inside the muncie trans. That said, redline has an additive in their non gl4 oils that they claim does not harm the brass.
So a few things to note here. Most products that are marketed as a lead additive, do not actually have lead in it ( hence no octane boost ). Those products are specifically formulated to help protect non hardened valve seats, and that's it. I can also tell you that these products do not...
Interesting theory. I hope that is not he case. When i bought the car, the engine only had 500 miles on it since a complete rebuild. I put 6000 miles on it before blowing the exhaust valves.Having said that, the rebuild was back in like 1985.
