Well, I do have two engines hanging out. The late 50's 283 that was in the Coupe so the PO's spouse could drive it and a 64-67 327 that was going into the car when life got in the way. It was built up in the late 70's for leaded gas. It has been laying under a bench some where and has about 1/4...
I will have to clean the grime off the tag to read it, I'll wait on that a while. The ring is there but the distributor is back in the box waiting for it's time to be installed. The 5 blade fan w/clutch is covered with oily dust as well, the date will be on the fan clutch once it is clean. It...
Well, there are three of them. A Delco w/tach drive that has a red aluminum ring around the shaft. A non stock Mallory w/tach drive and shutter wheel and a Accell w/tach drive that is missing the points plate and centrifugal advance weights. The PO was a racer and raced drag boats. He wasn't...
Building up the cash reserve to buy a GM crate motor (290/350) to start assembling this jigsaw puzzle that has been in boxes for the last 20 years. Some has been done, you can see after blowing the dust off! Motor first then assembly of a complete engine from the components in the boxes, start...
Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my window parts for the drivers door. They have arrived! While disassembling the window and cleaning/lubricating the components I find hidden damage :). Well I expected some, ordered the necessary new parts (I have ordered the front window glass guide, duh!)...
I know the value of a good pair of crimping pliers. I have one with inter-changeable jaws for most of the ones out there. Also some stand alone pliers for various European connectors. I was a mechanic for many years, good tools are essential.
I can buy a box of fifty at NAPPA here but I'm not...
Gads! What pressure! Will do as soon as parts get here and we're not tripping around the West Coast using up Terri's vacation. My poor wife is still working, only 2 more years and we can travel in the Corvette to see the USA. Better get to work. Well, since I am not getting paid it's not work. I...

Have just ordered 2C worth of parts to fix the drivers window, the rear channel has been damaged and pulls the glass out of it's mount. Will post some photos of repair as it proceeds.
Thank you Vigman (Mike) for the running dialog of your trials as you bring that Roadster back. I have the same trip in my future for my 65 Coupe. Judging by the B-A-ugly modification to the headlights your PO did you may have a few more surprises waiting! Good Luck going forward! Nice looking...
I have had some problems locating that connector for repair of corroded/heat damaged connections. Does anyone have a source for those early GM connectors? Local Auto parts stores (East Bay San Francisco) look at me like I am crazy to be looking for a 47 year old electrical connector.
Oil is not the same as when I was a young man.
Check this website <http://www.substech.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=engine_oils> for complete information on the properties of current engine oil. The following was quoted from The Substances and Technology web page.
"Combustion gases containing...
The crimp ("nipple") on the end of the metal fuel line is to stop a flexible line from slipping off. If the small kink has been in your fuel line from the time you purchased you car you would have had this problem all along not just recently. For that kink to be the cause for your complaint the...
"An update to the problem. I replaced all of the rubber fuel lines and both filters. The rear tank filter had the element loose in the casing. I cut it open and the out side part of the element had no ring at the end. Looked like it broke apart. With that being said i hooked everything back...
On reading your posts I have to agree with Mr. Halverson. That RPM and with no loss of power in the first two gears suggest fuel starvation not valve float. The reservoir of fuel in the carburetor should be replenished by the fuel pump at higher RPM. You mentioned a "small kink" in the fuel...
Filters could still be an issue, put them on the back burner. Check the choke with cold engine. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Without starting the engine, open the throttle to the wide open position. Quickly release the throttle. The choke plate should close over the primary opening (front...
Of the top of my head this sounds like a fuel issue, sporadic loss of power (no missing or skipping?). No response to the accelerator? Has the L79 (large Holly carburetor w/ engine heat used as heat source for choke) had the fuel filter replaced recently? Is the fuel pressure okay? On the...
