How long to wait; Dropping the Hammer after rear end rebuild.

Last time I rebuilt a rear end differential the break in was about as long as it took the engine to warm up.

    Would you buy a retro???

No I would not. Corvettes are supposed to be performance cars. IMO there would be some compromise to putting out a new Vette in retro skin. I really like the look of the new Mustang but not enough to cough up the cash to buy one. Instead I bought an old Vette. Everything is retro these...

3 point seatbelts in a bumper shark

On my 95 Camaro you can pull the belt as hard as you can and it will not lock up. Try it when going on a bumpy road.

    Value of a number-matching engine?

My 2 cents: Unless you can track down the block that came in the car with the last six digits of the VIN stamped into it, it will not be numbers matching. IMO the block casting numbers matching will not increase the value enough to offset the expense of building another engine. If you are...

Looking for one or two 15x8 rally rims

Looking for one or two 15x8 rally rims for my 75 Or is that rallye rims? I would like straight original rims that are not too rusty, and preferably still mostly silver. A little dirty, scratched up or faded is OK. The rims on the car now are too wide in the back for my liking, and I have...

    Another "EBAY" gem.......

Someone couldn't wait until the auction ended so they bought it outright -probably spent $16k to get the guy to close early. Hasn't anyone heard about the joint venture between Chrysler and Chevrolet about that time? This must be a prototype. :eyerole (Sorry I couldn't resist)

See if you guess what I find wrong tomorrow

Did you check if it is a bad lifter on the #3 intake? If the valve does not open it would be hard to get much to compress. btw I hope this is wrong since you already have the head off.

See if you guess what I find wrong tomorrow

On a quick read I say it ran too lean and made a hole in a piston somewhere near the center of the piston. It's a small hole but a hole nonetheless.

    stingray buying help

Check the trim tag inside the door jam on the driver side. It is on the A pillar just above the door hinge. That will tell you the paint code. This link will tell you all the available codes in 1974: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1974/74prod.html How much are they asking for...

    Proportioning valve

Wayne - thanks for the reply. Turns out it is quite timely. Today I was under the car working on the brakes. I was able loosen (and subsequently retighten) all the lines that connect to the proportioning valve with some line wrenches and a 7/8 end wrench to hold that large fitting that goes...

    Modifications

This is a hard question for me to answer. I have owned mine less than a month. Any other car I have owned I have not hesitated to change the mechanics, stereo, whatever to my liking. With the Corvette I find myself wanting to put the stock pieces back (as many are missing at the moment). I...

    Proportioning valve

The proportioning valve on my 75 appears to be leaking. On the bottom there is a small hole that was sealed with a small check ball, and it it leaking from there. Anyone else have this problem? Also any input on how much a new one should cost would be appreciated. I guess I could rebuild it if...

Any thoughts on a 454 sbc (or this one)

My first thought: I did not know you could buy a 4.25" bore small block and a 4.00" crank throw. I have to check this out. My second thought: How are you going to get all that power to the pavement without breaking something?

    75 Project on ebay...No Reserve

Well you paid a lot less than I did. How did you come across it? Was it wrecked in any way? Mine just needs a good bit of mechanical TLC (though the engine, tranny and rear end are good), and some minor parts are missing. All the metal underside components look pretty good - little rust...

    75 Project on ebay...No Reserve

Thanks - I was curious what it would go for as a whole, to see if what I recently purchased and drove home was actually a deal.

Ways to Increase Horsepower on a budget

Nasty? - sounds excellent to me! Before I bought this Corvette I was thinking about building a long rod 327 and balancing the bottom end to try to squeak some more power out of it. It will probably get some aluminum heads with a little smaller combustion chamber, but I still want to run 87...
