    oil use gauge

Page 7-5 in my 1998 manual talks about the Engine Oil Life Monitor. It says you should change the oil between 3000-10,000 miles, but never beyond 10,000 miles. It also tells you that the monitor will tell you when you need to change your oil. But, it will not detect dust in the oil, so if you...

    TSB repair costs?

Well, here are several TSB issues that I've read about and have experienced on my Vette: • seat sliding back and forth (problem with adjuster mechanism) • bad odor from AC when starting up (due to bacteria) • leather on driver's side bolster prematurely worn • "Door Rattle with Moderate to High...

    TSB repair costs?

Can anyone tell me generally what the "financial outcome" is when having a Technical Servcice Bulletin fix performed on a Vette that's out of warranty? Are any of these things covered by GM because they are the product of design flaws? My '98, of course, has no more warranty, and there are some...

    oil pressure sensor

I don't really have any in-depth knowledge of this issue (although the oil pressure reading on my Vette that I got 2 months ago has been pegged at 80/130 psi since at least May 2001, according to the service records), but I did have a thought. Is the sensor itself the same as the "sending unit"...

Service manual applicability from year to year?

Once again, c4c5, thanks for the help! I will steer clear of those "Preliminary" manuals. Hopefully I can find a deal on a set of "complete" manuals.

Service manual applicability from year to year?

Okay, cool. Thanks for the info! I forgot to inquire in my initial post about these manuals that I've seen marked "Preliminary". Should those be avoided, or are they essentially just as good as the "normal" sets?

    "thanks C4c5specialist"

I'll second that! c4c5 helped me out as recently as just this morning! :D Thanks for all the help you provide, c4c5-- you are a huge part of why these forums are such a great resource for everyone! Fred

Service manual applicability from year to year?

Hey everybody-- I'm trying to get hold of a service manual for my '98 Coupe on eBay, but some of these maniacs seem to be willing to pay more than what a new set from Helm, Inc. costs! :) There are, of course, some '99 and '00 manuals there, too (along with other years as well). I'm wondering...

AC has bad smell when the car is first started

c4c5-- Which database are you referring to? I'm looking in the Knowledgebase here on the site, but I don't see this TSB. I'm having the odor as well in my '98 coupe. Hoped to take a look at the TSB to see if there's anything I might be able to do. Thanks, Fred

    Trouble with Bilstein shock installation

Just for future reference, the rest of this story can be found at the end of this related thread: 1998 Coupe w/ Z51 "jumping" sideways in turns?

    Which year C5 to buy?

I agree with your personal preference of the coupe over the convertible-- while a convertible would be fun with the top down, I just never have liked the look with the top up as much as the coupe. Same goes for FRC/Z06-- the back end of the roof line is "chopped off" too quick for my tastes. I...

1998 Coupe w/ Z51 "jumping" sideways in turns?

Thought I'd give everyone an epilogue on this "adventures with shocks" story... Well, this past Thursday, I finally got my baby back (ribs?), with new CV boots and parking brake mechanism, along with the Bilstein Sports I had installed the previous Friday (when the CV boot damage was done)...

    Production Codes

No problemo! I also started searching for those other codes. I know your Vette isn't a Z06, but the 2001 Z06 page here says that NF7 is "Emission System, Federal, Label". I think R9Z is your delivery code, as it is listed at this page with other delivery codes as "Control - Sales Item #100"...

    Production Codes

Randy-- I don't have all of those, but here are a few that I was able to determine when trying to figure out my codes: UV7 Windshield Antenna UZ6 Bose Speaker System VM3 Label Information

How to remove cowl vent screen?

I've finally obtained a wiper fluid hose to replace my broken one, but I need a little help in accessing where it needs to be installed. Apparently, to get at the connection points for the wipers, and to run the longer portion of the hose to the passenger-side wiper, I'll need to remove the cowl...

1998 Coupe w/ Z51 "jumping" sideways in turns?

Wow-- funny how a thread can sit domant for a little while and then experience a flurry of activity! :) To update everyone, I decided on the Bilstein Sports and just had them installed on Friday. Unfortunately, the installation was not trouble free: Trouble with Bilstein shock installation I...

    Trouble with Bilstein shock installation

Well, I finally got my Bilstein Sport shocks in on Thursday, and went to have them installed on Friday by a local service shop that seemed to pay pretty close attention to detail (lots of Porsche owners use them, so I figured they must be fairly competent). Unfortunately, when I went to leave, I...

    DTC Codes on a 2000

The "H" simply means that it's a "History" code-- in other words, it's been fixed, so it's no longer an issue. Since all of your codes are "H" codes, you should be fine. Not sure about the battery being drained, but that sounds like a reasonable guess to me. Glad you are enjoying the Vette, and...

    Tie down points on a 2000 C5

Greg-- I understand your concern, and admire the restraint. I'd be dying to drive it if I were the one picking it up, though! :D If you'd like another option to consider, here's what I did when I picked mine up 1 month & 3 days ago (time flies when you're having fun!): Have the...
