I've seen this personally too. You also might want to get a dial timing light so you can verify timing that the computer is advancing. Just to make sure everything is in line.
As mentioned in the previous post, and just to reaffirm pulling the codes is really the first place to start.

Mail order tunes are fine if you have bolt on modifications. Unless they have experienced tuning a setup like yours, there only going to be in the ball park maybe. The mail order tune may get your car running, be aware, in my experience extensive data logging and tuning is required.
There are countless early C4's available that have very low mileage. If you are dead set on a C3, that's fine. Just thought I would throw a monkey wrench into things.

You first need to identify what your intent for use of the automobile will be. Once that is established, pursuing the correct flavor of corvette should be much easier.
