First of all you should make sure the copper radiator is not clogged in any way. Also when you added coolant did you add it slowly? You may have air in the system which would cause it to overheat. I have the same configuration as you do on my 68 big block and living in Southern California I do...

Hi Don.... don't shoot the messenger but even with a clean bore (which you really wouldn't be able to tell unless it was disassembled) it would only be worth about $35 to $50.
There are an abundance of C2 and C3 master cylinders (fits both) on the market. Just judging from the pictures that master will need a complete overhaul and since it's been sitting so long the cylinder is probably rusted and pitted. It will probably be a crapshoot on a rebuild.
