    cooling fan

There's a fellow in the Atlanta area selling the aux fan on E-Bay, brand new, for a really good price, "Buy it now" for $45. I got one from him two months ago, it was exactly as represented, a new in the box GM part for the C4 Corvette. Installation might take you an hour if you're working...

    Fog lights

Thanks for that tip; I just did the same thing to my ('89) car, also noticed the main beams glowing, just haven't worried much about it. But like you said, the fog lights weren't any brighter with the 50W bulbs. In fact, I've been thinking of converting the foglamp housings to cold air...

    cooling fan

The primary should come on also when A/C headpressure is up - which is just about any time the A/C is on. The fan out front will come on at 228F. Or not at all...

    Hood Insulator Question

My apologies for posting a technical reply.

    I Need Technical Advice

OK, here's one that produced similar symptoms in my car, on more than one occasion: Has the fuel filter been replaced recently - to your own personal knowledge? I mean, did you do it yourself or see it done? A clogged fuel filter will periodically starve the engine under heavy load, like...

    Hood Insulator Question

Re: Insulated? To pass the noise test. So GM can sell the car. Unlike the ZR-1, which had a "defeat" algorithm in the engine control software that detects when a noise test is being performed (constant 30 MPH for 'x' seconds, followed by WOT) and dials back the horsepower by about 50%...

    tb bypass and 180 thermosat

I've managed to get my '89 with a 160 'stat to where the water temp will be 75 degrees above ambient at 70 MPH, level road, A/C off. That is, at 95 F ambient, I'll see a top water temp of 167 - 170 F, and I like that just fine. Lower water temp means lower oil temp, longer oil life, better...

    No Brakes!!

Just replaced my M/C two months ago, same symptoms as yours, absolutely no external leakage. Got a rebuilt unit locally for $82 (exchange) that works perfect. Removing the reservoirs goes like this: YANK them off! Sorta tilt and pull - hard. But before you do that, look down into the bottom...

    I Need Technical Advice

Probably the one thing you can rule out is catalytic converters; as long as you can smell them, they're "converting." What you've described sounds like an ignition problem; do you know that the plug wires, cap, and rotor are all in great shape. no more than a year old? If not, I'd recommend...

Ken's A/C ( the continuing saga of the 84 rebirth)

"Illegal"? That's a sick bird of prey, right? How "illegal" does that rank compared to, say, running 120 on the Interstate? "As you pointed out vacuum does not show up leaks that will show up under pressure unless they are significant." That's my point exactly; what would you rather do...

    Hood Insulator Question

The hood insulation for the Canada C4's is for reduced exterior noise, per Sae J986. It will also give a VERY slight reduction in interior noise. You'll need good ears to pick this up, though. Regards, R

    Ball Joints

Thanks! That rockauto.com is a great site! Especially when you live in a small town, and the local Chevy dealer has your credit card number memorized...

    A day under the hood........

Not a chance! The dealer will come to you when the built-in sensor transponder signals a fault code! BTW, that was a very good price on those tires. How are they?

Ken's A/C ( the continuing saga of the 84 rebirth)

One trick I learned from a refrigeration mechanic friend of mine: after finding all the leaks you can, vacuuming down, verify the system will hold a vacuum overnight. This is unfortunately no guarantee it'll hold pressure; I've had bad old hoses on a car that would hold vacuum but not pressure...

Magnetic Selective Ride Control---First Drive---Whoa! What a Great Option!!

Just a matter of appropriate technology. You wouldn't want to be dusting crops or flying in to fish on a remote lake with an F-18! If a Corvette has ALL the latest techno-gadgets, and costs $150,000, it doesn't do me a bit of good.

Magnetic Selective Ride Control---First Drive---Whoa! What a Great Option!!

I'd lay money that the magnetorheological shocks are "tech for tech's sake" like the various so-called "active" systems we've seen in the past, and will go the way of the "active muffler" technology that was all the rage ten years ago. Anyone remember digital dashboards? Don't you love 'em...

    Front License Plate

Maybe that's the big city:small town difference. Like I said, I never get a second look, but that could be the difference from living an hour north of you. - R

How hot does your c4 run?

Just for summer use: If you haven't drained and flushed the system in the past two years, now's your golden opportunity. Drain, flush, put in about a 70:30 ( or 3:1 if that's easier to mix!) mixture of antifreeze and distilled water, which runs about $.59 a gallon at the grocery store. If...

    shocks and brakes???

Try running the recommended tire pressure, like on the driver's door or glovebox sticker. It'll say 36 psi I'll bet. 44 psi !! No wonder the ride is rough! - R

    Front License Plate

After 8 years of driving a C4 in Texas, without the mandatory front plate, I've had no problems. Acquaintance of mine, and a Corvette owner, several years ago told me that all he did was to carry the front plate with him. Cops here just want to know that you haven't put the front plate on...
