I have looked on the tensioner and I cannot see any wear indicators even though I know they are suppose to be there. I also thought that it would be a good idea to change it and the belt anyway just out of general principal. The car is 19 years old and I'm betting the tensioner is original...
Has any of the magazines done comparrison tests on shocks? I know the combinations would be endless but it sure would be nice to have some sort of baseline to draw from. I appreciate all of the information here but I still haven't decided what to do.
Thanks evrybody for your information. I'm still not sure which way I will go I just know that what ever I do it will probably be better than the generic shocks that are on there now. That's what it had when I bought it two years ago.
I am after the best handling I can get. It seems that the...
I found this in another thread. "My personal choice was the set of custom-valved shocks from TPIS." Can anybody tell me who TPIS is and where I can find them?
Thanks
Yep, your right, I haave the FE3, bilstein shocks code, also. So what would I expect if I went back to the Bilsteins over the generics that I have now?
Thanks
What are the stock shocks for an '86 with Z51? When I bought my Vette a couple of years ago it had some replacement shocks that had been purchased at a tire store.
What would I expect to gain by going back to the stock shocks?
Are there other aftermarket shocks I should consider and what...
I somehow missed the first part of this so I don't know the details of your problem. Having worked for a large RV dealer who had been a car dealer for many years before, I would handle this by first asking for the service manager and if that didn't bring satisfaction then I would ask for the...
There is not much on the front of the compressor to get a hold of and I can't turn it over. It is like it is up on compreesion and I can't get it started. Any ideas to try to turn it?
Thanks
Thanks for the information. Yes, the entire AC system was replaced about two years ago and it was converted to the 134 refrigerant. It is still cooling though. Interesting that R12 is available, I thought it had been removed from the market thanks to our environmental buddies.
I have a rattle that is coming from the front of the engine. It starts when the AC clutch engages and stops when it releases. It is getting worse (louder). The belt appears to have plenty of tension, it moves less than its width, but there is a lot of vibration coming from the tensioner arm...
I haven't but when I had my radio in my '86 swapped out for a newer version out of a Cadilac it did require a wiring harness adapter. The shop here in Boise ordered the adapter and did the swap. I have tried to keep my car as close to original as I can. The cost for the newer radio, adapter...
I had a problem with mine in my '86. A local repair shop had one on the shelf that he said came out of a Cadilac. It was the same size but because it was newer he had to get an adapter harness for the wiring that was available from an electronics supplier.
I had a problem similar to what you have described after I bought my '86. I believe the problem was coming from the Armor All the previous owner had used to detail the interior with before he put it up for sale. I really don't like that stuff.
Looking on the Auto Zone web site it appears that the Rinos they sell are the same as the ramps shown in the Mid-America catalog. At least the specs match and the picture looks the same.
