How does that pre-61 copper radiator fit in the 61-62 core support, and the hood still clear? The pre-61 radiators were about 2 inches taller than the 61-62 aluminum radiators, which sat on top of a two inch tall bracket that is inside the bottom of the core support.
If you still have this...
I talked to a guy from Corvette Central at the recent Corvette/Chevy Expo in Houston, and he said they would have a repro windshield assy out in a couple of months. I didn't get around to asking him what they planned on charging.
There is a guy on ebay who sells what looks to be an identical product from time to time:

I can't speak for its quality, however.
The magazine article states that the conversion will start at $40K, and go from there. That's not counting the donor car. Pricey, but it is an awesome looking finished product.
At that price, don't you think you could get a local body shop to cut and graft on some Corvette Image body panels...
Billy Dawson had his blue 59 Corvette (which is featured in this edition of Vette) with the rolling C4 chassis he sells at the Houston Autorama last week. Cool car. It has the WiseGuy seats, and Billy let me sit in it. I'm 6'6", and I actually felt comfortable in it - much more leg room. His...
Thanks, PD. I'm just worried that my paint chip from the 59 Chevy Paint chip package is too small for the local people to get a read on, and/or the chip has faded over the years.
Thanks, Paintdaddy, for the paint link, and John, for the tips. I want to have my 59 painted Snowcrest White in a single stage urethane (for durability) applied to look as close as possible to lacquer. Linking further into the site provided by Paintdaddy, which product would be the best to use...
Even if you restore it, you still have to worry about it being haunted if someone met a tragic fate while driving it. Perhaps unexplained opening and closing of the glove box, spontanteous ignition events, creaking fiberglass, etc.
Thanks, John. So basically, an obvious BC/CC car could conceiveably still pick up 50% of the originality points, if shot the way you describe? And what if it was overrestored (i.e. no overpeel)? Would that be another 20% off, meaning the max recovery was 30% of the originality points...
I read this too; however, the portion you quoted results in a 100% loss. To get 50% credit, the appearance has to be consistent with factory application methods. Which begs the question, what constitutes an appearance which is "consistent with factory methods"?

Next to the whereabouts of a rumored sixth Grand Sport or the absence of arrest-me-red on the C6 color chart, few mysteries fascinate truly fretful...
Much cheaper solution - I bought an Autogage 7000 rpm electronic tach, and took the glass off it. I bought a tach face sticker from the Vette Gal for $25.00 (see has all years, plus lo or high red lines). I cut it to fit over the Autogage face. I bought a stock needle from Corvette Central...
