    project 59 progress 7/18/04

Thanks for the pics, as always, John. I bought this same radiator. It looks great, but I had to cut up my fan shroud to make it fit (I hope will fit when I put everything together, that is). Now I kind of wish I had bought the Dewitts, which I understand is a true "custom fit", instead of...

    Project 59 Instrument Cluster

John, remarkable work. You ought to save the mold, and go into the aftermarket business. I'd be a buyer for that console, especially with the pass through design that is clean and puts the wheel 2 inches further away.

    That explains it. Thanks, John.

    Project 59 exhaust system

Outstanding work. Thanks for the pics. Question - with that SRIII frame, will the engine sit a little lower than stock, to get a little more hood clearance? And since the X-frame is not in the way, is the tranny mounted a little lower for a better driveshaft angle (and lower center of gravity)?

    '59 fraud on eBay??

I reported the item to Ebay, and to their credit, they were quick to pull it. This appears to be the same scam someone from Portugal was pulling, "wire me a $3000 deposit and I'll ship the car to you from Europe." I emailed the guy in the ad from yesterday, asking how I could bid on the...

    '59 fraud on eBay??

I saw that too. Here is the ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2481585881&category=6168 Note the seller is out of Canada, with no Ebay feedback history. However, the same car is for sale on the traderonline.com website for $69K, by someone out of Texas...

    Numbers on a '61 Frame?

The frame VIN number is right under the driver's wallet.

    Retro Stereo

Or you can go the Secretaudio route, and keep the stock radio in the dash: http://www.custom-autosound.com/secretaudio.php

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

Okay - you're right. Putting the Fortes TKO between the body and the frame of my 59, I found out their offset shifter would not fit. This is because the housing for the horizontal shifter arm runs crossways across the entire width of the shifter plate. Since I will have to cut the tunnel as a...

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

I don't have any pictures, because I haven't installed the Fortes TKO yet. I'm doing a body off on my 59, and my body and frame are stripped and separated. So the tranny is sitting in a box. But it is definitely a true offset shifter. Its not just a modified shift bar - that was the former...

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

Also, the advertised torque rating was 525 ft/lbs.

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

It took about three months, but the reason I was given was they were working on the new shifter location. Mike Pell said otherwise I could have got it right away. I got it in about two months ago.

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

I'd have to pull my receipt, but I think he gave me a price break on the TKO at $1795 (advertised at $1975). The shifter location upgrade cost another $300.00. $60.00 for the speedometer/drive adapter. $60.00 for the heavy duty yoke. $279.00 for the McLeod bellhousing. $30.00 for three...

    Ordered KEISLER 5 SPEED

Just bought mine for a little cheaper from a Fortes distributor: http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/ Fortes now has a shifter upgrade for $300.00 that puts the shifter in the stock location (i.e. same as the Muncie or T-10 - 19.5" back of the bellhousing, 2" offset left of center).

    C2 to C1 Will I be happy?

I'm 6'6", and look kind of like Fred Flintstone driving my 59. I had Al Knoch do my seats, and had him take a few inches off the springs, so I sit lower. Plus, I bought the Corvette Central 15" steering wheel. So I sort of fit in it now. But I'm not bashing the car; I love the C1s. Just...

    1953 #77 "harerazn"

$86,400.00: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=172049 Nice little mark-up, there. No wonder it hasn't sold in over a year. But it is a neat looking custom (just not at that price).

Who can afford to restore this?

Curious car. 59-60 front end and cove area; 62 door panels, 61-62 rear end.

    Engine Suffix Help

Probably pretty easy to rent a stamp, add another letter, and make it "correct" for a Corvette!? :)

    Engine Suffix Help

It is curious that the normally two letter suffix is only one letter: "D", for powerglide, but without the second letter denoting the horsepower option. I have seen pictures of other stampings such as this, ending in a D, or in a C (manual transmission), without the followup letter denoting the...

    Praise dyno brakes for 64

I wonder if you could use these brakes in the vintage racing classes that require drum brakes. They would seem to give you a tremendous advantage over OEM brakes.
