what type or brand of anti freeze do i use

I have converted my 85 and 93 to DexCool. There was a posting on a DexCool gallon that you can go backwards to 93 for a changeover, mostly I believe because of use of Aluminum blocks. DexCool, or any 5 yr RED, will be the same. I also did it to my 85, just to extend the life, or time intervals...

    '96 Opti questions

The '96 cap will fit the '93, but you will have to plug up a vent hole on the dist. with something like JD Weld putty. Then you would have to get a GM venting set-up part from a '96, which you attach to the dist.(can order that from GM-$16) then plug(fit) on end into the air runner, the other...

    '96 Opti questions

I did an opti-spark change on my '93. Had to convert the cap to a '96 for better venting. If you get down to the point of taking the dist. off, just replace the whole works. Mine showed corrosion at 21K.

What kind of car wax do you like/use? a poll

This may have been answered before in another thread, but I was wondering what you folks like to use? I have been using a can of Classic carnuba paste wax, not much residue. I have also used 'Kit' which seems to be OK. Do you like the 3 step jobs?:w

new owner and i have some questions

toms 94, I just wanted to point out that the '93's had different size front & back, so they can't be rotated either. This probably carried over to '94, and then I think they went back to same size in another year(I would have to check the book)

new owner and i have some questions

I believe the '93's had different sizes for front and rear, (to make it easier to steer) this was changed to same size in '94. According to the "Black Book'. Then they may have gone back to different sizing again, in '95 or '96. :w

    C4 or C2

You have a nice dilemma. But for daily /more practical driving, the C-4 is the best choice. Runs on pump gas, minimal tune-up. The C-2 in my opinion would become a Garage Queen, and afraid to take it out too often. Unles you live in a warmer climate, and can get more use out of it. I like my...

How do you clean a Throttle Body?

Let's see if I got this right: you remove the air intake runner, then spray/clean with gummount or similar the butterfly 'flap' in the oval/roundish part of the body, including the body cavity. The throttle body to me is nothing more than an airflow regulator, the fuel is 'downstream', so what...

LT4 How many LT4 Convertibles Total

Hey Rick, Our VIN #'s must be close. I don't have it on me now, but I remember seeing that mine was built in May '96, from the build sheet. That would seem like the last 10% to me. Won't be able to tell you the VIN for a couple of days. :lou

LT4 How many LT4 Convertibles Total

I also have a CE LT4 Vert with grey interior. Every option, EMT without spare tire delete(funny thing, the NCM window sheet doesn't agree) ( I also have the window sticker that shows that). I also have the hardtop option. I picked up this baby in AZ last summer, drove Route 66 to take it home...

    Bucking 86

My guess is that you have a fuel problem(duh)- maybe you got a bad batch of gas, or are NOT using premium grade. Maybe lot of carbon build up. Change your fuel filter. Also you can check around the distributor for cracks. Sounds like a lot of things to think about, but that's what goes thru my...

    Idle wanders

I have an '85, stock, except for Borla exhaust. Purchased used, 50K now, a real beauty. The only thing that bugs me is that the idle does not seem to stay at a steady pace. The tach may read 650 for a while, then pick up a bit, then drop down to 550. This goes on and on, sometimes stays smooth...

Did GM give my 85 free Blisteen shocks?

I know for my 85 and for several years Blisteen(?) shocks were an option, according to the Corvette Black Book. I'm just trying to figure if my car had the Z51 handling package. I know it has heavy duty cooling, which is also part of that package. The Corvette museum sticker & build sheet I...

Did GM give my 85 free Blisteen shocks?

I'm trying to decode my '85. I have the build sheet and window sticker. I received the car with 43K on it. The options listed do not include the Blisteen shocks or the Z51 handling package, which would have included the Blisteens, yet the car has Blisteens all the way around. I know this is a...

    Drove the Vette Today

With all the drenching rain we just had in the NorthEast, it washed all the salt dust off the roads. So I am ready for a spin...soon.:cool

What's the deal with this 1-4 shift??

Lots of times I roll the car a bit and start off in 2nd. You can get so much accelleration, then I jump to 4.

LT4 Would you buy an LT4.....would you sell one?

Last August I purchased a convert LT4 CE. I could have chosen a C5 if I wished, but this model just did something for me, and I always had wanted it. The C5 choice would have been just another Vette, which really isn't that bad, but the LT4 just seems so special. It's sort of like a true love.

    Helms

Depends on your model year. I have an 85 and Helm didn't have the original 'red cover' version, the only thing they had available for that year was a photocopy of the 85 original manual. Just as good as original, and unfortunately the same price. It's the 'white version'..sounds like a Beatle...

    Valve seal question

Do you think Marvel Mystery Oil will loosen too must 'stuff' and cause more problems?

    Valve seal question

Thanks toms94, but I don't want to get into replacing the seals now. I thought what I mentioned above would solve it somewhat. It's OK about the puff of smoke I can live with it for a while, I just thought the oil method would work.
