    1973 Front bumper issue

The originals were urethane and very flexible to handle the fitment issues these cars had. No two were alike and the originals worked very well until they got old and ultraviolet rays killed them. When we bought our 75 12 years ago the original bumpers looked great but 3 months in summer sun...

    A few winter Jobs

Well I can only offer my opinion on them. Back when new the 80-82 corvettes were slugs, sorry to say. The car was more about cruising then any real performance and GM was gearing up for the C4 production so the concern of the day was to improve mpg and part of that was to cut weight off the car...

    A few winter Jobs

Here are some pictures of what you have. I hate these differentials and won't take them in but these pictures may help you Here is the seal in place

    A few winter Jobs

Unlike the 63-79 iron diff's, where you can remove the front bracket to get to the pinion yoke, then seal- the 80-82 have a cast in bracket and different pinion seal. I have done the iron seals on the car but never an 80-82. Not saying it can't be done on the car though but it will be tricky.

82 rear end drop when shift into drive

my 72 does the same thing and did when I bought it with 40k miles back in 1979. Every automatic C3 I saw does it. Enjoy the car and don't worry about it. If you have suspension issues it will show up in other areas.

    Mount new fuel pump

I use the bolt method too- 3/8-16 is the thread. Also a glob of grease will hold the rod in place too. Remember the rod works off a cam lobe on the camshaft.

    Question: Horse power

I get asked a lot about power when building a vette diff or trailing arms, how much power will it handle? My first answer is always "What are you going to use the car for?" Same applies to power. If you are new to old vettes and just want to drive it with some punch then a cam, intake, real dual...

Help! C3 noob with rear end problems!

I agree with Mike, check the obvious first. Good to know you blocked up the IRS so it wasn't hanging. I had a customer crack a posi case I 1/2 with the shaft hanging down on a lift while putting it in gear. Now 68 diffs has their issues. The posi case was the left over design from 1965 and...

    74 rear end rebuild

To answer your question on Differential axle endplay. Starting around 1973 to 1979 the original axle faces were no longer hardened. Most likely cost cutting measures but I really don't know why GM stopped having hardened axle faces. As a result the axles worn down rapidly. This results in axle...

C3 Rear End Assembly into Ford Truck

Hi Bob Sounds like a good deal you have there. You can look on the side of the RG for a GM Stamp, tooth count and date to confirm. Tom will have the clutch kit, be sure to only get the solid steels, no fiber coated or snowflakes type clutches. Stub axles were lousy from about 73-79, they...

Will wider tires fit my 77?

I have cut and rewelded the parking cable bracket to the top of the arms to allow wide tires to fit. I usually do this when building arms but I think it can be done on the car.

C3 Rear End Assembly into Ford Truck

And that about as good as it would get in a truck! Looks like an aftermarket spring was used, heat shield is factory. Be sure to check the diff good. The 78's had issues with the RG bolts backing out and shearing/breaking things. The clutches are junk but you will change those anyway, axles if...

can't get my rear rotors off

The wheel studs are knurled and pressed into the spindle flange. If you take the spindle out, it is pressed in and will require tools, you will have to rebuild the axle. The bearings will most likely be wrecked in the process. If the arm was ever rebuilt then there could even be other issues...

Help! Bled brakes till my legs seized!

The guys gave you some very good advice. I would suspect the MC too and would pull it to see if it's leaking or replace it. Now you're about as far away as you can get but should be able to get the parts. I have a few of my units in Australia but they take time to get there. I like to use the...

    Gas smell from '71

I agree to check that plastic check valve and also to make sure the correct year gas tank was installed. This system started in 1970 I believe, I know my 72 has it and mine is bad. The early tanks were vented through gas cap I believe and these were not, instead forcing the vapors to the coffee...

Positraction Plates Popping Again And Changing Rear End Lube

As I said before I believe you prefer to find someone to argue with. I will not be that person. I am willing to bet I have built far more posi's without springs then you have ever been around. The springs and plates certainly work, however depending on how the clutches are set up will...

Positraction Plates Popping Again And Changing Rear End Lube

Thanks guys for watching my back while I was off this board. Ok so as I said from the start I was hesitant posting knowing full well there seem to be controversy with just about every TBTR threads and frankly I believe he just likes the attention, kind of like that kid in 5th grade that always...

Positraction Plates Popping Again And Changing Rear End Lube

Wow that has to be pretty old stuff. I don't know what the shelf life is on that, I thought I once read where there was but who knows.
