Unlike the 63-79 iron diff's, where you can remove the front bracket to get to the pinion yoke, then seal- the 80-82 have a cast in bracket and different pinion seal. I have done the iron seals on the car but never an 80-82. Not saying it can't be done on the car though but it will be tricky.

my 72 does the same thing and did when I bought it with 40k miles back in 1979. Every automatic C3 I saw does it. Enjoy the car and don't worry about it. If you have suspension issues it will show up in other areas.

I use the bolt method too- 3/8-16 is the thread. Also a glob of grease will hold the rod in place too. Remember the rod works off a cam lobe on the camshaft.

I have cut and rewelded the parking cable bracket to the top of the arms to allow wide tires to fit. I usually do this when building arms but I think it can be done on the car.

The wheel studs are knurled and pressed into the spindle flange. If you take the spindle out, it is pressed in and will require tools, you will have to rebuild the axle. The bearings will most likely be wrecked in the process. If the arm was ever rebuilt then there could even be other issues...
