    Camshaft replacement

Don't forget to soak the new lifters in a can of clean oil for a couple days so they are inflated when you install them... [RICHR]

" help, no start after installing super ram"

If you're using the SuperRam base (intake manifold) they're NOTORIOUS for not sealing right, and the lower ports on the runners also have issues. Take a spray can of carburator cleaner or other similarly-volatile substance and carefully spray it at each intake runner where it meets the base...

    Camshaft replacement

One more thought - since '85's use flat-tappet cams and lifters, the lifters essentially become mated to the corresponding cam lobe. You'll also have to replace those with the new cam, but that's only a cost issue because you've got to remove them to take the cam out anyway. Then you'll also...

    1988 Chevrolet Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette

If you can dig up a copy of the old Sierra game "Vette!" from the late 80's, you can drive the car around San Francisco... nothing like launching off the Golden Gate Bridge at 250 MPH :) . [RICHR]

Looking for the rear e-brake cable brackets......

If they're not moving parts, just brackets, then your best bet would be to find someone parting out a car on here or another forum site, or contact one of the Vette salvage yards I've used vette2vette.com. You could also try these places, but I haven't dealt with any of them...

Looking for the rear e-brake cable brackets......

You're talking about the L-shaped pivot bracket thingies? Not sure if this is the same as our year, but they look similar: http://www.corvettepacifica.com/catalogue_pdf/Brakes/Brakes%20Ret.pdf I did see a couple repro places selling them at Carlisle the last couple times I was there, but I...

Will Cooksey Lays it Down at Carlisle!

Youch! I knew there was a good reason I headed for home around 5:30 instead of waiting for the parade as I'd intended. Got home (south of Baltimore, about 110 miles away) minutes before the heavens opened there. I feel for those whose Vettes got damaged :(. [RICHR]

    Wanted to BORROW: ALDL/Serial cable

Looking to borrow (or buy, if cheap) a known-good ALDL-Serial interface cable. I'm having no luck getting DataMaster to connect to my ECM and I'm wondering if it's the cable. Thanks. [RICHR]

Corvette Action Center Loses a Valued Member

Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. Never met him personally, but bought several parts from him. Nice to know he'll live on in my car... [RICHR]

    Best tar remover?

FWIW, over the last couple weeks I've tried a number of different products including Turtle Wax's offerings and some auto store recommended ones. Some were citrus-based, some weren't. Nothing worked... I was beginning to wonder if it was black paint rather than tar. I called my insurance...

    Best tar remover?

Wow! So many great suggestions! I'll have to start trying them this week. Many thanks, and I'll post results when I get them. [RICHR]

    Best tar remover?

I had the misfortune of driving a highway soon after a tar truck had dumped its load for several miles - since it was dark, I didn't see the tar spots until after I got to work. This was liquid-looking tar (like driveway sealant) rather than chunky road-repair tar, and it has resisted my best...

86 Will Only Idle - will not increase RPMs

Forgot to add one more thing to check - a big crack in the accordian hose between the MAF and the throttlebody. If you are sucking in a lot of air after the MAF has measured what should be in the engine, you'll kill the engine every time. Happened to me on another car - idled great but would...

MAF burnoff relay vs MAF power relay?

Very useful post. I'll check the contacts next time I'm under the hood... [RICHR]

86 Will Only Idle - will not increase RPMs

Couple things to check - MAF, connection to the ECU (a bent pin in the wrong place gave me a similar problem), TPS, timing, fuel pressure. You can check the TPS voltage with a couple pins through the wiring harness - then touch your voltmeter to the ends of the pins. Take the readings using...

    modded prop rod/87

Where it attaches to the hood should be the same place as the existing one. If your new rod didn't come with that mount, just transfer it from the old one. [RICHR]

    modded prop rod/87

Jim, I have three pix online that might help, but I also remember posting a short write up on it when I did the work. Search this forum for posts by my userID. Anyway, try these: http://alumni.umbc.edu/~rrubel1/pix/IM000913.JPG http://alumni.umbc.edu/~rrubel1/pix/IM000914.JPG...

    modded prop rod/87

The 87 had a hydraulic prop rod (left side) from the factory, as opposed to the scissors prop on the right side for 86 and earlier. What's modded about yours? I've installed a later hydraulic rod on my 86, so I might be able to help if I know what's different about your new one. [RICHR]

MAF burnoff relay vs MAF power relay?

I bought one from AutoZone and haven't had a chance to look at/for the other yet. Been dealing with some issues on our daily-driver cars for now. [RICHR]
