The early 'verts (L86 to 88) don't have the flat metal surface on the B-pillar and the location of the encapsulated bolts on the windshield pillars are not in the same spot. The latches in the decklid don't have the threaded nut at the bottom of the latch to take the encapsulated bolt in the...
I think the consensus concerning the number of 1983 cars built anywhere from 43 to 47. All of these cars had 1983 VIN numbers that showed the 1983 model year. I don't believe that Corvette Enthusiast has their numbers right. That would be 20 more cars than most articles show and a 50%...
Just passing thru (had three C3' sover the years and one had lots of rust in the frame corners ) and read about the situation. Glad to read that things are working out and on your way to building a solid car.
One thing that should be documented is the VIN number on the new frame. Most all...
One easy way to flush and refill the system is to purchase a set of "Speed Bleeders". These bleeder screws replace the existing bleed screws on your calipers. Find the ones for your car here: http://www.speedbleeder.com/
Speed Bleeders have a small check ball and a spring inside. Once...
My 92 had a plastic window in the soft top and the orange hot wire was in place. It's easier to add the wire to the loom at the factory than to have to add a wire only when the hardtop was specified as an option. The ground wire was added by American Sunroof when the cars were delivered to...
Are you concerned about moving between classes?? Typically, any sort of suspension change in SCCA or NCCC will move you out of a stock class. I'm not up on CCCC rules if you run in that Association, but modding the suspension will get you into some sort of modified class jsut about anywhere...
Where are you getting power for the amps? One pic shows two wires that appear to be just wedged into the side terminals. Are these the power loeads for the amps? This may not allow full contact between the cable ends and the battery terminals.
The head unit should not be an power issue...
IMHO, there is really nothing wrong with DexCool. GM started to use it in 95 and it's in all GM products ever since.
The biggest problew with converting to DexCool when theoriginal system used the green ethlyene glycol coolant is that the two coolants are not compatible. Failure to...
If you have an AutoZone parts store near you, you can rent a cooling system pressure tester (the rental is really free; you pay a deposit and when you bring the item back, you get all of your money back).
Pressurize the syystem to 16-18psi and look under the car to see if there are any leaks.
The OD unit takes just over 2 quarts of Dexron II/III. There is a fill plug just above the front cooler line.
Most auto parts stores sell a small plastic pump that fits a standard 1-quart oil bottle. There is a length of plastic tube that comes with the pump that attaches to the pump nozzle.
Have a load test done on the battery. It sounds like it may be on its way out. A couple of years ago, there were problems with some Optima Red Tops. A friend of mine put a Red Top in his 90 ZR1 last year and it died within two months. He got it replaced and that one lasted 4 months. He went...
I believe the OP is talking about the convertible hardtop (RPO CC2). This top was first available in 89 and the tosp are the same thru 1996. GM did have a retrofit kit to install the 'vert hardtop onto the 86-88 convertibles, but those kits are very hard to find now and thwy would have to come...
I would be looking for tread separation too. Mount each wheel on the same front side and spin it. You can fab up a simple runout gauge by clamping a heavy wire (coat hanger) to the wheelwell and have it just touch the tire tread. Spin each wheel in turn and see if there is any contact.
If you remove the right rear plastic wheel well, the VIN should be on the top of the frame rail. It should be under the right rear brake line forward of where the flex line attaches to the hard line and the stamping is facing up.
But the black stuff should be thin enough for the stamping to...
The 7th digit (a 1) is correct for an 88. That defines the type of restraint system; 88 did not have airbags only a manual seat belt.
The 8th digit is the engine type. An "8" stands for an L98 motor.
The 9th digit (a 0) is the check digit. It is arrived at by a computer-generated formula...
I would think that it would be pretty difficult for a VIN error to be made on the assembly line but anything is possible ;shrug . The fact the the 9th digit of the VIN is in error, (according to CARFAX) is strange. It's a check digit used to verify the correctness of the entire VIN.
There...
Converting to RH drive is one thing, but converting (:D ) to a convertible is another thing altogether. The fact that the decklid release switches are in both doors means that somebody did a lot of extra wiring.
Does the car have the factory X-brace under the car? How are the shoulder...
It's entirely possible that the car could have sat for 3 years between 91 and 94. It doesn't look like there was any DMV title issued between that period.
But CARFAX reports are only as good as the data that is reported to them. The second and third owners may not have driven the car a lot...
Is this the number on the rivited-in VIN plate at the lower corner of the left side of the windshield??
There should be a decal on the left door that has the VIN on it. If it's there, does it match? Look for the Service Parts Identification sticker that's either under the console lid or...
