    Z51 pwr steer cooler?

Yep, just lean in from the passenger side and look down to the steering rack, its right there (in the way):D

    Header Choices

Interesting you haven't heard of QTP, they are right up the road from you. They are very big in the f-body area and popular on LS1Tech.com

    Header Choices

Why are these the "best". There are many headers out there, and from what I have seen from dyno plots, they are all within a couple of peak HP from each other. I personally went with the QTP headers. They are all stainless, mate to a Random Tech "X" pipe system and are a Tri-Y design. They...

What size is the throttle body on a Standard C5 vs a Z06??

I just checked this myself. I bought a throttle body from an 02 Z06 for my 02 vert that I plan to have Mark Shaner do his thing to.

which stock exhaust manifold is best?

When they went from the steel to the cast iron manifolds, they made a design change then. Don't think there is much difference amongst the years that the case iron was used. The cast iron is a Tri-Y design.

    zo6 exhaust on ls1

I have the Ti exhaust and recently (ahhh, before the snow:cry ) put on a set of QTP headers. I had the car tuned afterwards with a conservative tune similar to factory so I wouldn't be lean on the street. Picked up a solid 25 HP and the cars behaves much different. The motor snaps when you...

    Rear / Differential Lubrication??

I too am running Amsoil. Careful of the GM additive. Some like Amsoil S2000 (currently being updated with SVR I think) and Redline do not require an additive. GM's additive isn't compatible with Redline either since its a different base. I have had good luck with the Amsoil, but some have...

    headers

QTP has posted results on their web site. Also, LG is having a group purchase on their system right now. Man, I wish my house was done so I could get some:cry

How many miles are the C5 engines usually reliable for?

Just to add to the mix, the LS-1 is a well designed motor that can handle high loads for extended periods of time. A friend recently showed me an article where it is finding its way into home build aircraft because of this capability and its durability. Since an airplane motor is always...

    new exhaust

I installed mine myself, but I put in the Z06 exhaust. It saves weight, doesn't resonate and is slightly louder. I am hoping to upgrade to long tube headers over the winter. As for the installation, it is actually very easy but the car needs to be at least 36" off the ground. If you don't...

    C5 ashtray mod

Some have moved the climate control down to the ashtray opening so that other stuff like a GPS can be installed where the climate control is. I would consider this if there were something worthwhile I could install.

    C5 oil pressure

Some food for thought. Mobil-1 oils (5W-30 and 10W-30) are down at 10 Cst at 100 degree C, almost a 20 weight oil. Also, you filter may effect your oil pressure as well. There are other oils, within the 5W-30 range, that have higher viscosity within the allowable 30W range at 100 degrees C...

    Trying to locate battery cover

Never seen that one, I have one that is color matched to the car but only attaches to the top of the battery. Wonder if that one would have any heat related issues with regards to the battery since it might stifle air movement. Would be curious if you find it where you did eventually find.

How do I remove original rotors?

I used a 1/2" breaker bar and they came right off without a problem. The service manual stipulates replacement of the bolts in case you are not aware. They can also be carefully cleaned and re-installed with Loctite 271 (red).

    Oak Top Cleaning

I have the same color top and use a product called "Raggtop". You can buy it from the museum and other places. It works well but be careful when you re-apply the sealer. Too heavy a coat will turn the top dark and take longer to dry. Cool weather will also lengthen the drying time. It will come...

    Gas Gauge Problems

Not sure you want to do that, I think they moved the fuel filter into the tank in 04, which should be real cheap to replace later:eyerole I have had some issues with my tank as well. I have been told that using Chevron Techtron for two tanks helps. I am on my second tank now, but haven't...

    headers

I have looked into this at length. The Kooks are a pain to install, but Nick recently stated they were tweaking the design to help with this. However, they are not full stainless front to back so I crossed them off my list. The Dynatechs are full stainless, but some have had problems with the...

    Oil Change Question

The oil is presumably a synthetic and likely Mobil-1. Changing at 3K is a waste of $$$. I would run the DIC down further and then change, or at 1 year if that comes first per the manual.

    Header question

I have been researching headers for several months. I would suggest that you do need a tune post installation, because the engine will be running much richer. The tune will also get you an additional 10-20 HP over just the straight header installation as well. Right now, top contenders on my...
