You could replace the radio without removing any of the dash but you will have to remove the side center console covers and it matters on the radio but the radio bezel may have to be removed also for modification.

Sounds like actuator rack may not be aligned correctly.

I've put a few in with no problems.

I've done many Vintage Air conversions on C3"s without any problems. Take your time and double check all fittings while installing. DON'T try any short cuts.....

Looks like they did a good job putting the 79 clip on it.

I used a center punch. Very lite tapping with a hammer or you'll split it in half.
