I just ran an MSD HEI on my motor on the Dyno and it worked great. I got 12 more horse out of fixed locked MSD but have no desire to run a locked distributor for stret driving. More on the motor today, I'll post some pics and the results. Good luck.
Thanks guys, brain dead manuver on my part.
It's for an engine dyno ( out of car ). I was concerned about not having the right things plugged for the dyno but I think over the weekend I figured it out.
I plugged the top of the water pump, the two intake manifold holes ( either side of the...
OK, Finally getting to the dyno next week, been a long road but it's finally here.
I need to know if anyone has a cooling flow diagram for a 350. The intake manifold has two ports on the front of the manifold, one on the left side and one on the right (either side of the thermostat housing...
Thanks gents, I appreciate all the input you have. I think I'll take the advice and leave it to a pro. after I drop the motor back in.
WISHYOUWEREHERE........thanks I'll check them out when I've got it back on the road. Just finished the engine compartment over the weekend, just have to...
I purchased new bushings for the front end, upper and lower A-Arms.
Question, for obvious reasons the removal is not as straightforward as one would assume, if you are doing the top (or bottom for that matter) what happens when the bolts are removed? Does the car drop in other words do certain...
I just finished my rebuild, getting the car ready to take the motor.
I'm about $8K into it and not finished yet, wife is going to kill me. Still need headers and pipes, that's another $1200.
Basically the advice I'd give you BEFORE you start is decide what you want to accomplish with the...
I looked into these for my '81. In talking to Summit they swore it would work on the rebuild 350 I'm doing. I was hesitant to just order it because I had that "story" from the summit boys before and found out that it didn't fit, wrong hole pattern etc.
I called March myself and they said it...
Gents ( and ladies).........I'm placing the last parts on the motor before I go the dyno and if it's not one thing it's another........delaying me yet again.
Alternator bracket.............I purchased a Zoops from Summit part number 8100. It's way too high on the block, higher than the top of...
I'm just finishing my rebuild on my 388. The part you are dealing with appears to be the most troublesome and certainly was for me. It took me about a month to decifer what was real and what wasn't. I haven't fired up the engine yet, going to the dyno in two weeks and yup, I'm worried.
What I...
Check the switch with a voltmeter across the switch. Open and close the switch in the ohms position and see if you go from open to closed ( zero ohms to infinity) if the switch appears to be OK check the voltage to see if the switch is passing 12 volts to the motor. If it is, check the motor to...
Jack thanks and also the rest of you for the help. It's always the little things that seem to get you in a rebuild and for the love of me are eating up more time than I ever imagined.
Jack, you're right, I looked into that last night. In talking to Summit, apparently they have no idea what...
Thanks, I'm not worried about them exchanging it, they are pretty good about that, the problem I have is that I have no idea what distributor to order.
I really have no intentions of using the on board computer, the motor is punched out to 388 and 10.6:1 CR. The distributor has the vaccuum...
I'm in the final stages of the rebuild. Got an MSD distributor via Summit today and was installing it and noticed that the tach drive is mechanical.
Being this is an 81, there is no provision for a mechanical tach drive, I am assuming it is electrical connection via the 4 pin plug from the...
Tony, keep us in the loop as to what you find here, I'm really curious as to what happened/is happening with that. As someone coming down the road on a full rebuild, any insight I get is better than firing this baby up blind.
PS I used to work with a guy named Tony from the Gold Coast, he...
Thanks Jack. The water pump is an Edelbrock 8822, specific to the Vette. Apparently the "long" waterpump is about 3/8" longer than the one I have which would make the situation even worse. I checked the press on the pump and there is no wiggle room, good thought, but no way.
I'm just going to...
I did this last year. One trick I employed that helped was I raised the window all the way up and taped the window to the door with duck tape, it saved me from removing the window, just make sure it can't fall 'cause you're hands are gonna be in there. If you access to gaffer tape it'll save you...
I put a link in here for you that is a typical setup for electric fans.
You'll find that most are thermostatically controlled and are not dependant on if the AC is running, purely on temp in the bay. I am not sure but think vette fans are thermo controlled, you should be able to check by...
Tritium007-- The water pump won't solve your problem. The short pump for the vette, everyone makes the same length. It is measured from the block surface to the end of the pump. Chevy got around it on the Vette, apparently, by designing a "special" pulley for the crank........this was news to...
Hey Jack, the water pump pulley is forward of the crank pulley. The crank pulley is a dual and the water pump lines up right between both tracks, so basically the crank pulley has to move forward 3/16" to line it up with the WP pulley. With that said I'm also concerned about the PS pump and the...
