I prefer to set the hole 1.5" from the pad and not through the bracket. Vendors have been selling a kit that does the same thing into the bottom of the rear cover. I never liked that method either.
I run points in my 72 and will in my 69 once I build it again. These are street cars and a tune up every 10k miles works for me. Keeps me in tune with the car. My son has a drag vette and used several HEI aftermarket setups. They work great, until they fail- in our case with about 1000 miles on...
I had some hesitation posting on these threads but here is some general information that may help some.
The issue of posi chatter has been around since 1965 when GM first started using the Eaton spring loaded posi in corvettes. Now the chatter would vary from car to car because these were...
Ah yes lynn Dickey, he had a pretty good arm as I recall, got them to the 82 o 83 playoffs if I remember correctly? that was the strike season too I think.
I'm 57 now, been working on vettes close to the past 40 years since I bought my 67 when I was 18. Had my 72 since 1979.
I have been a packers fan in ct since 1968, during the 70's into 90's they played like the current Browns. I will watch them Sunday afternoon and see how they do.
Good luck with the vette.
Good job, clearly looks gummed up from years of neglect, but then how many people would clean their door latches?
PS go Packers, although they need a kick in the ....!
Yes remove the latch. Reach up and remove the 2 speed nuts on the handle and the handle can be removed and checked. Clip the rod to the handle and slide it back in the door. Once you get it cleaned up and see how it works it's not too bad.
Hi Fred
Sorry I don't know of any shops in your area but just want to say your problem is not uncommon. I bought several systems about 10 years that were from a well know vendor that actually made them. Not one fit correctly, my chambered system was terrible and it would cost more to ship at the...
The clip on the arm is tricky the 1st time around. The upper rod clip to handle lever isn't too bad but the lever hole will enlongate at times an the handle should be replaced. This is another imported part that is not the same quality at the GM handles were, they are cheap. The castings around...

All the rods originally had some type of clip. The one on the arm for the pivot is flush with the arm and with dirt on it looks all the same. There is a hole in the arm where a tab on clip locks in place to prevent it from sliding off.
The rod is held to handle with a clip. The other end goes down to the latch arm. There is a pivot screwed on to end of the rod for adjusting the throw of the handle. The pivot has a stud that goes through the arm and a sliding clip slides on the arm to lock the pivot in the arm. The pivot stud...
I used one of those old B&D valve grinders about 33 years ago when I had a job in an automotive machine shop for a while. There was an indicator that fit on the guides to check the seats and I wanted to dial in every seat I ground to get it the best I could. The owner didn't want me to spend the...
They are called bearing supports and there were variations in them from 63-82. The 63's had no webbing in between the legs. The 64-74? had small radius legs, the later ones had larger leg ends. The bores on the earlier supports had a well inside, the later supports had a straight bore, holding...
That looks like my 72 only I still have the 73 hood that the previous owner ( 1978) put on the car.
AIM = factory Assembly manual, it covers how the assembled parts were bolted on the car going down the line. All the vendors sell copies of them now.
Stock springs are directional, coils tighter on one side I forgot which side is up. After market springs are not like this. Also as mentioned the bushing cap bolts might have been tightened while suspended. Loose them up and roll the car on a flat surface then tighten them up again.
You're not going to have to worry about getting any older if you continue to use a coat hanger compress coil springs. The internal compressors don't work all that great on these cars. You are always making tools, make yourself a real corvette coil spring compressor.
Buy a 3' length of Acme...
63 to early 65 used a machine thread plug and hole. I don't recall off hand but I never measured the many I rebuilt over the years. The mid 65- 79 used a 3/4 npt plug & hole. The Dana's for 80-82 I do not take in or work on so I can't say. I gave away all the 80-82 diff's and parts I had left here.
69's will have the later tear drop posi case with the 10-18 spiders. The Ring Gear will be dated coded on the side.
If it was sitting for 40 years I would check those bearings too. The bearing caps should not have the tabs cast into them.
