TH350 Pan Gasket And A Few Other Questions?

Google- THM350 Accumulator Cover- it'll show you pictures of the cover, that bad azz spring that's under the cover, and the piston. Easy change- compressing that (@*&$$ spring to get the snap ring out is the tough part.

    News: bushings

I used poly- but I drilled all of the shells, thru the poly and cut slight grooves into the ID of the bushings so if they get squeaky I can grease them.

I noticed this 'W" on my intake manifold.......

Look close at the picture- the "W" is surrounded by the snowflake. Gen-U-Wine GM part.

    Fan Belts

What he said. Make sure the replacement belt for the crank/water pump is not too tight. IT will take out the water pump bearings fairly fast if it is. And too loose it's wasted space. I have the number for a BB but not the SB crank to water pump belt.

    blower motor resistor wiring

The wiring diagram will tell you what wires should have power and when, looking at different switch positions. Off the top, I'd suspect the switch, but without knowing what year and looking at the wiring diagram, that would be just a SWAG.

    Diff Gasket Sealant 80-82 ?

Way off from what you have listed, I'd use 3M 8001 weatherstrip adhesive on one side (my choice would be on the cover). The sealing is going to be by the paper gasket, all you need is to hold it in place during assembly. And in the event you need to open it up again, cleaning the gasket off the...

    Question: dimming lights

At idle, the alternator is putting out just enough current/voltage to not drain the battery. With the headlights on, it's not enough to carry the full load so the lights are not as bright. Pretty normal as long as the alternator has the correct output. Stop by your local parts store and have...

    81 Pinion Seal Question

Here is an install tip ----- for any type of oil seal. Before you drive the seal into place pack the rear cavity of the seal with grease. If you look at the rear of the seals, you can see a small spring around the rubber part of the center. That spring is what holds the lip of the seal in...

    rough running when cold

If all is working correctly, the first pump on the accelerator pedal gives the carb a shot of gas (accelerator pump) and also allows the choke to close. The thermostat rod is retracted and is slightly pulling on the choke mechanism on the right side of the carb. Opening the throttle that first...

10 Reasons not to buy a big block Corvette

Even money the person that wrote the original article went for a ride in, or drove a BB Vette and had the c**p scared out of them.

    Help! Transmission oil cooler.

Hanging any cooler on the radiator with tye-wraps or straps is a semi bad plan. Regardless of how tight you get them, the weight hanging out there is guaranteed to wear thru the tubes in your radiator. It might take some time, but it will happen sooner or later. Make it neat and tidy, fabricate...

    rough running when cold

When the engine is cold and you set the choke, the butterfly closes. As soon as the engine starts, it needs more air so the choke butterfly is supposed to open (specs are in the manual somewhere) a little bit. The vacuum diaphragm, i.e., "choke pull-off", is supposed to take care of that. If the...

Question: 1979 After Market Air conditioner

I did the install. The only things I don't do are machine work and alignment. If I had the cash for all the equipment, I do that too. Alignment I could do, just to lazy to go borrow the tools and find a level spot in my garage.

    Patiot Heads..Promaxx problem

I've heard of a couple of guys that had pushrod/rocker/valve alignment problems. Not necessarily with your heads, but problems. Have you checked and measured the rocker stud location with a known good head? I'd look to at the placement of the guideplates too. They might be off and causing the...

Question: 1979 After Market Air conditioner

I had a '74 that I purchased a Vintage Air system for. Complete, in the box. Install charge and cold air. Before I got it installed a deal came along on a 77 and the 74 went away. Bottom line, I installed the whole system in the 77. Had to do some re-engineering on the control head to get the...

    Pulls Right During Acceleration

Another thing is the thrust angle. I saw a post on another forum the owner had just got it aligned and the shop had all the trailing arm shims on the same side of both control arms. No mention of it pushing but it sure seems odd. My thought is that the rear wheels would be pushing at an angle...

Help! What is this and how bad ami screwed?

IT looks like the balancer. Not a big deal, and not the first one to ever come apart. Tough part is digging it out of there. All the belts, the fan and the pulleys need to come off. Most parts stores have a tool rental/loan program for the puller and installer. Stock balancers are not real...

    Drive / driven gear problem?

My old memory says the clip fits into the forward hole of the two on the shaft. If you can drop the driveshaft all that's left is 4 bolts that hole the tail housing on the trans. (5 if it's a TH400). The open end of the clip goes to the rear. You'll need to get the gear up close, use a small...

Help! Riddle me this! What would make this noise. . .

I'd suspect the "hiss" is compression escaping past the rings or valves after you stop turning it. Perfectly normal, unless you're having some rough running problems too. In a perfect world, the cylinder that stops at the top of the compression stroke would hold that compression until the piston...
