my 85 has been fairly trouble free, and very reliable. i do however drive it everyday (spring/summer/fall). if i was going to buy another everyday driver C4, i'd look at a '91 L98 auto - 50K mileage range. i think (JMHO) this would give you the biggest bang for the buck.

i have found that checking the oil level right after turning the engine off can lead to false dipstick readings. it takes several minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan. on my c5, the manual says to wait 20 minutes, but i find that the level will still continue to rise after that...
