J & B Weld to the rescue!
My 1980 is like Wamps's 74, to replace the cracked emblem I had to destroy the 3 rivets that held the three pieces together, then clean and lightly sand the parts for good adhesion and put the 3 pieces back together using the great "J & B Weld" two-part epoxy method...
Scratch-X
I have purchased some at Wal-Mart store just a few days ago and did my whole 1980 with it ( Laquer paint, no clear-coat ) Works good. Took off a little more oxidised paint than Meguirars #9 swirl remover.
Did not remove all swirl marks, but did take out light ones.
I preferred the...
Has anybody tried this stuff? Meguiars "Scratch-X" small scratch and swirl remover made for use by hand, not orbital buffers.
Looks interesting, maybe slightly more abrasive than the 3M swirl remover, or the Meguiars #9 swirl remover, I don't know?
Anybody tried it?
NCCC class change alert!
Dave, Just so you know that this will put you in group 2 in NCCC autocross tech inspection and in class "E" there is alot of competion.
The Govenor of the Route 66 Corvette Club is in that class with his gold 85, But I would love to see someone beat him ;)
JT ZR-Won...
Test Pipe!
Try a "Test Pipe" in place of the cat. That's what those test pipes are suppossed to be for ;) right.
You can always put the cat back on for emissions testing after you complete your "Off-Road Use" of your Vette :D
Check E-bay, a guy on there was selling new ones for many...
Go C-4 fo Performance
For looks, you can't beat the 80-82's
If you want performance, think about a 1974 or earlier Big-Block ( 73 & 74 big blocks are reasonably priced )
Best "Bang for the Buck" is a 1985 to 1991 L98 motor Corvette. Good prices :) , Great Torque :eek , Hard to beat on the...
Top Storage
What year convertible do you have?
I have been researching roll-bar options for my 96 convertible and have come up with very, very few options. For one to meet NCCC specifications anyway.
Best bet seems to be a custom fabricator. If you want your top to function.
Did you purchase...
clocks
Hey BANG, My clock in the 1980 doesn't work either. Never has as long as I've had the car.
That's a "one of these days" thing to fix.
I promise you will never run out of things to fix on a Corvette ;)
But when I do fix it, it will be to quartz movement from a kit like Mid America's...
A/C retro-fit
I just did my 1980 from R-12 to R-134a, did it myshelf. Not too bad. Recommend replacing the accumulater and vacuming down the system (by a shop) then putting in your own retrofit kit.
It runs about 45 degress at the vents now in 85 deg. weather. Spent about $100 total. Not too...
idea's
Lots of good idea's here, BUT........, If your car is still close to stock and original, you may want to keep it that way. http://www.ncrs.org can help you out there!
Not many 4-speeds in late model sharks.
Otherwise: Go with a true daul exhaust system with headers and cats if you need...
Zaino
I to have converted to this product.
Great results.
Minimum of Z-1, then the Z-5, then the Z-2, and you must have the Z-6 for touch up's.
Eckler's sells the Zaino line, but at a slightly higher price.
e-mail Sal Zaino off his website and ask for the nearest authorized distributer near you.
Horn Button / Emblem

The 82's seem hard to locate, I just replaced the horn button "emblem" on my 80. Not too difficult, grind off...
Gears!
Well it's obvious that not all of us will agree on the best combonation here.
With the L98 automatic, I would not go over 3:54's for gears (higher in LT1 applications).
Also I would do the gears first then if you wanted more, do the torque convertor. But doing both will create some...
Gears!
The gears are the best mod. With the L98 low rpm torque range, about 3:54's would be all the higher I would go. This will make a tremendous differnce in autocross times. Your 0 to 60 mph times will increase greatly! There not cheap, but well worth the costs.
On the torque convertor, I...
Washington,MO ?
Hey, this must be Zane......Right? I know I have seen that car somewhere before.
I replaced just my cable insert from the dashbaord end of the casing and it wasn't too bad:(
Get the band-aids ready! your knuckles will be hurting.
One tip, remove the drivers...
I have white ( oyster ) interior in my 1980 and as you can imagine, this shows any dirt very easily :(
I have just used Meguirars "Gold Class" leather cleaner / conditioner on it and found it to work O.K., but not great. Had to use a heavyer cleaner on tough spots first, then the conditioner...
Gruhala Enterprises
Also try Gruhala Enterprises ( Gary Gruhala, is owner )
http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/GruhalaEnterprises/
He will have almost anything you could want for a Vette!
Delco Freedom Battery
Yes, I too had to settle for a 1996 vintage Delco Freedom Battery in the black plastic case. It is not the correct CCA, but it's the best I could do.
Probably cost me 20 points in "flight judging"
But it's better than the "Interstate" that was in there!
