    didn't I read

I painted the metal housing for the center console gauges bright white. The metal housing was painted light blue from the factory and was starting to show some lite rust. So I cleaned it up and painted it bright white to increase the reflection of the bulbs. It really helped and the fresh paint...

standard versus double roller timing chain difference?

What is the difference between a standard timing chain and a double roller, and do I really need a double roller? I hope to replace the cam in the near future to tap into the flow of my vortec heads. I expect 300 rwhp after the cam swap. I don't drag or race...just sunday driving, so I don't...

    Door panel malfunction!

The same darn thing happens to me. One simple project always leads to a more complicated and involved project. One of my big problems is that I always want to paint everthing I take off the car. When it's 30 degrees outside I can't paint so I have all these parts sitting around waiting for a...

    Door panel malfunction!

I'm in the process of installing power door locks and new door panels. While I'm in there I'm also inspecting and cleaning up the inner door parts. One thing I've noticed is that some of the screw holes are stripped...possibly incorrect screw size or the fact that the doors have been uninstalled...

    Heater won't turn off!

Here is what I did to cool the car off in the summer living in NC. First, I removed the heater control valve and installed a manual valve. I simply open the valve in the winter and close it in the summer. Works better than anything else including replacing the heater control valve...unless you...

    speedo

First thing I would do is check for secure connection at both ends of the cable. Next thing I would do is lube the cable. I know I've seen an adapter in one of the vette catalogs that allows for easy lubrication of the cable. The connection at the speedo requires that you depress the clip behind...

    CD Player Skips

my cd player skips like a kid jumping rope. not sure there is an end all fix as the vette is just rought riding vehicle. I would just experiment until you can make it better.

    Dual Exhaust

After installing Dynomx ceramic headers, I took my vette to a muffler shop and let them make a dual exhaust system from my headers to my mufflers...I reused my existing mufflers. Took them about 1.5 hrs and cost about $175.00. The only thing I regret is not installing an X or H pipe which I'll...

    Clutch cross shaft rubs headers

Same thing happend to me when installing Dynomax ceramic headers. I took the z-bar (cross shaft) to a machine shop and had him ding the z-bar where the header was rubbing. I made sure that he understood that he had to ding it but without bending the bar from one end to the other (bar had to...

    Power Steering Replacement

It's a fairly easy project. Just take your time, search old post on the topic plus post new questions as you go along. Also have your chevy shop manual ready to go. One of the biggest goofs people make including myself is not documenting how things are assembled before you disassemble them. Case...

    Aftermarket Horsepower

Actually, this project was very easy. I fabricated a mount for the fan with 3 pieces of aluminum from Home Depot using the factory fan shroud mounting locations. I simply created 3 sides of a square, mounted the square to the factory shroud locations and mounted the single 16" electric fan to...

    Aftermarket Horsepower

I had my car on the dyno after installing vortec heads. The owner of the shop was tuning my carb for me on the dyno. He noticed that my mechanical fan clutch was not releasing (was a new fan clutch with less than 1,000 miles on it), so he asked if he could dyno my car with and without the...

If you go back to within the last two weeks there is a thread discussing this exact topic.

After 5 years of ownership I finally removed my spare tire carrier, it's not pretty

From what I've read over the years on various vette forums, I think more C3s opt to not carry a spare. Everyone is looking for weight loss. Some people are content with a cell phone and their AAA membership. Me, I don't think I would be comfortable driving far from home without a spare.

After 5 years of ownership I finally removed my spare tire carrier, it's not pretty

I can't imagine life without ebay for vette parts. I'm almost addicted to searching for good deals on ebay. That's how I sell it to my wife..."honey I just saved us money by buying on ebay".

After 5 years of ownership I finally removed my spare tire carrier, it's not pretty

Well, I decided to see what the a$$ end of my vette looks like after 5 years of ownership. Ignorance is bliss until now. I discoverd that one of the straps securing my gas tank was missing a bolt and just sitting there. My differential cover, differential cross member, spring and associated...

    Fan Speed Switch

Hi Ed, I'm just North of you in the Allentown area. Going to get 3-6 inches of snow on Tuesday...not good vette driving weather. The first thing I would do is check the wiring and connections for that particular circuit. Remember how old your car really is. Over time connections become loose or...

    81 carb change

First thing I would do is check local inspection/emission laws for your county in PA. I just got my PA antique plates which require a one time registration fee...no emissions or inspection. I believe PA also offers classic plates. I replaced my Q-jet cast iron intake and Q-jet carb with an...

    New Wheels...So many decisions...

I too have Stage 8 header bolts but I used copper gaskets. Maybe I'll try the aluminum.

Just curious what brand and part # gasket did you use on the headers?
