    Best instruction book?

I would add getting the factory service manual for 1975. I picked one up on ebay for my 80 for $25.00. The vette catalogs sell for a lot more.

Having my convertible top Put on

Funny thing happened today. My wife and I are at Barnes & Noble here in the Allentown, PA area. My wife is wearing her UGA sweatshirt. A girl standing in line ask my wife if she went to UGA and why she is wearing her shirt all the way up in PA. My wife ask her why she has a very southern accent...

Having my convertible top Put on

Good memory...usually I'm on Corvette Forum as Frankenvette. Yea I know Tom and Neil. Those were the days at the Pike House. I wish I was heading to LA. At least ESPN Gameday will be there. I already told my wife I'm watching football all day. First FL/TN then the Dawgs. Should be a great game...

Having my convertible top Put on

That is a very good price. I paid $400.00, but that included installing new weatherstripping that I had and bending the top to fit properly. It is better to let a professional install the top for that perfect fit. By the way....GO DAWGS!!!! I'm the only one with a UGA flag flying up here in...

    Heater Blower Motor

FYI... a common mod is to disconnect the low speed fan wire so that it acts as an off switch. I did this by simply unpluging the low speed wire...I did not cut it...just unpluged it. Great mod for summer driving as it helps to reduce cabin heat. Along with installing a manual shutoff valve in...

79 Vette Brake Problems; spongy pedal

While your servicing your brake system I would also check the rubber hoses. Not related to your problem, however, old hoses can swell causing slight spongy feel due to bulging. I checked my front hoses one day and found a huge bulge in one of the hoses. As an fyi, if you are on a...

Fan Clutch - Is this bad?

sac001, I got my fan used from a used race car parts store in nascar country...charlotte, nc. you can get a 16" electric fan from summit new for cheap. I pulled the radiator shroud ( which opens up my engine compartment) and made a mount for the fan using the factory shroud mounts. I then...

Fan Clutch - Is this bad?

I would suggest loosing the clutch and installing an electric fan. I dyno tested my car with and without the fan clutch. I picked up 13hp and 17 lbs-feet of torque. I did not spend tons of money on the conversion...picked up a used 16" fan and made a mount from aluminum stock at home depot. With...

    Convertible top weather strip

Wait! Also, when I had my top and weatherstip replaced, I purchased all new stainless steel hardware for attaching the weatherstip. I like the thought of no rust.

    Corvette top replacement

Al Knock has the best reputation for making tops. I think most catalogs sell his brand. I think I paid about $160.00 from a now defunct business about 2 years ago. I paid $400.00 for the install from an excellent shop. I had received quotes up to $1000.00 which I would never pay. While your...

    More Horn Problems! Help.

I wish I could remember the details. I replaced all this stuff last year. Check out corvettefaq.com. I belive there is a section on this, but I'm not sure. I do remember the instructions saying to cut the spring, but I never did. Sorry I can't remember the reassembly. If all else fails, go to...

Rag joint in steering column ?

I too agree with using an original type rag joint. I installed the cheap repair kit from the local parts store, and it is NOT of the same quality as oem. It is more rubbery and just does not feel the same. I plan to replace with an oem part. Also, another area to check for slop is the steering...

    Blower Fan Comes On W/Ignition

I disconnected the low speed wire. Now my blower is not running all the time which keeps the heat down in the warm months. If I need heat or air, I always have medium and high which works just fine.

need opinions on why my car is surging

Funny you should ask about the tach as I noticed it is bouncing a little. Normally my tach is dead on with no bounce. This is not a tranny problem. I can tell the engine is missing and the backfire sound is a sure fire way to know it is engine related... I think it is somewhere in the ignition...

need opinions on why my car is surging

Car just started surging the other day while driving. I can feel it most when driving down the highway. I can also hear a very faint backfire sound in the exhaust. I have not done any work on the engine lately, so I can't figure out why this just started. Plugs, plug wires, air filter and gas...

    Torque Specs - Edelbrock 2101

I was thinking the same thing...800cfm is large for a small block. I'm running a Carter 625cfm with a performer intake.

    front rotor replacement

I did not reinstall rivets when I replaced my rotors. Have fun drilling out the rivets. Kind of a pain in the azz. Have a sharp drill bit and start with a smaller bit then a larger one. Have a good punch that you can pop them out with. Also, lots of WD-40. My cordless drill kept running out of...

need info asap from convertible owners

My vert is in the shop getting a new top. The top frame is bent and needs some work. I had another shop replace the header(very front part that attaches the top of windshield frame) in the past. The guy at the shop it is at now says that the header is bolted to the frame, however, the previous...

Top Rad Seals, how do they fit??

If in the future you have problems with your seals, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get pipe wrap for about $3.00. Fits perfectly as a seal on the sides and top and is easy to install and replace as necessary. I had to use this because of mods to my car but have never had an overheat...even in...
