Sounds like a major job. Can you pull the chunk without dropping the whole rearend? I only have 40k on the car, should it have gone out this "soon"?
Andy
I used a vacuum pump to suck out as much of the old fluid as I could and think I got most of it. I then put in fresh rearend fluid. One of the bottles was Slick 50 gear oil. I then put in the additive.
Thanks Sherry, I am going to jack her up this weekend and try to get to all those ujoints...
I know what you mean! I still have my old timing light and I think that old meter is put away somewhere in my shop. Who would ever have known that I would buy an old classic and need them again.
Andy
Quick question, when I first got my Vette the rearend would clunk and jump when turning. Usually after an extended period of forward driving time. I was told to change the rearend fluid and put in GM additive to stop this. I did this and put in one bottle of this additive. The clunking did get...
Always glad my two cents worth helps Sherry. I guess I will be telling my age when I remember the time that they stopped putting points in. I was in High School and doing a few tuneups for friends to make a little extra money. I even had a little meter that I used for adjusting the "dwell"...
Just changing the plugs should not cause the car to just stop running. At worst, if you got the wires messed up it would run rough. Because the check engine light is not coming on gives me more reason to believe that something got pulled loose. I am more familiar with the 75 set up. Check...
I don't think the 85 had points, should be electronic ignition. But do check the distributor cap and rotor. Turn the engine over with the cap off and make sure the rotor is turning. My guess is that if you were not having any problems prior to changing the plugs that you just pulled something...
I was looking through my new Corvette Central catalog this morning and found the a/c system I was talking about. They have two types but they are showing one as discontinued, that one is part #68-77E or 77L-82. The other one that they offer is part #453159. You could check it out online at...
Are you trying to keep the look original or do you want a modern a/c system? I can't find the site right now but I saw it here on CAC that will convert the system to a modern style a/c compressor and all the extras for between $1000 and $1200. It does not have the long type compressor but has...
If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you? I bought a 75 convertible on carsonline.com and drove to Wisconsin from Louisiana to drive it home. Only had 39k when I headed home. How did you have it shipped?
Andy
Robin, do you have an Assembly Manuel? That is about the only way to trace the wires. I used mine to find/id some suspicious wires. If you don't have one you should consider the investment. I am not at home right now to look it up for you but maybe someone will be on that has their book with...
The vette shop that rebuilt mine said that you need to use a high quality (name brand) DOT 3. He also said that the system should be flushed every three years. Has anybody else heard this?
Andy
Can't give you any installers way up there but I just had my new soft top put on my 75. I took the phone book and looked under upholstry shops that make/install convertible tops. I called the ones that sounded reputable and got a ballpark price. When I decided on one he told me it would be...
I want to take the horn button off of my 75 so that I can repaint it and the sleeve behind the steering wheel. When I try and pull up on it the horn blows. I don't want to force it and break something. Does it just pull off or do I have to do something else before I pull or pry it?:confused...
Excuse me if I jump in for a connected question. I think I may have the same problem on my 75. How big of a problem is it to change the mounts? Is it just a matter of jacking up the engine a little to get the pressure off and unbolting them?
Thanks
Andy
try this
This item is in the JC Whitney cataloge and you can find it online. Search the sku#14zx93740 or just put in short locator and it should come up. I have never used it but if I ever have a short like you have on my 75 I think the 30 bucks would be well spent.
