    V.S.S. (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

Huh? Readers ride, you have to explain a bit more your problem, and you have to remember that no one is in here 24/7 and knows how to answer your question. If you are like most Vette enthusiasts, you probably cannot work on your Vette until the weekend, or at maximum an hour at night during the...

    Engine Removal with Automatic Transmission

Not with the radiator. Yes with the transmission. Either way, the hood comes off. You can drill a small hole (no bigger than 1/8") on the hood's hinge brackets (one per bracket), and through the hood, to help you find the sweet spot when you put the hood back on afterwards. After drilling, then...

Georgia L81 Restoration from St. Louis

nice work. Looking good. I hope you get to drive it this coming Spring. :thumb

    Poor MPG. Tune-up suggestions?

All very good checks, but it has been my experience with my L81 that poor gas mileage is the result of vacuum leaks. A stuck PCV valve, bad valve cover gaskets, carburetor leaks at the base, and such can cause vacuum leaks. The fastest (although a bit messy) way to check for vacuum leaks is to...

    Loose hanging wires.....

Yes, the 100 rpm is what the compressor is taking away. The goal is to get the engine running as close as to the rpm is when clutch is disengaged. :) The L81's are so sweet when they are running just fine. Very reliable. :)

    Loose hanging wires.....

Tator, I am not sure if you are calling it,"idle stop", just to make it easy on yourself, but the 81 Vettes have an Idle Compensator Solenoid. Idle stops are normally a computer-controlled solenoid that the computer uses to adjust curb idle on some model cars (I believe early 80's Cadillacs had...

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Thanks Bud, Gail loves the warmer weather we've been getting. She is driving great! I need to take a drive somewhere. :) GerryLP

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Update. I purposely ran the Vette out of gas. Light did not come on. But at least I know where the 3 gallons is on my Vette gage. lol (i know, sounds idiotic). I just hate the Vette not working as advertised. Mark, who sold me the module, sent me info in how to test the module. More to come...

    WTB. 700R4 trans

Consider instead a TH200-4r. The Buick guys have learned to make it stout, and no need to modify drive shaft....cross member available. The bowtie drives one even has the bracket for the E-brake pulley... Bowtie Overdrives - View Item GerryLP

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Hey Billy, Yeah. I know that almost no one lets their cars get that low, but on long trips, seeking a gas station every half tank does not work, specially going out west. lol Anyway, it is a life saver having that light working. For standard L81 owners, it means another 30 - 36 miles to find...

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Antz, you are not too far off the mark. The light should come on around 7.5 litters of gas left. But i am beginning to think that it is more closely relate to what is left in the tank, than to needle position.

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

I wish I could say that, Bud. But the low fuel warning light has saved my rear a couple of times in those long distance returns to NM. In fact, that one time we parted ways in St. Louis, I was in major cruise control, and were it not for the low fuel warning light, I would have run out of gas. I...

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

I don't know why GM did not incorporate a light bulb check on the low fuel warning. When you run out of gas is not the best time to find out that the light does not work. lol I have the wiring chart for the L81, so thanks for the offer. It is just that it now has a new module, and I am trying...

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Hey Nut! Yeah, let me know if you are coming to NM or passing through, either way. It would be great to see you, man. :) I am suspecting that I stopped my test drive too soon on the Vette. Next test I will have three gallons of gas with me on a 5 gallons bottle and either run out of gas or...

Question: How Low Can We Go? :)

Hello folks, Long time no-posting salutations. I finally got a replacement low fuel warning module for Gail, but I can't remember when about I am supposed to see the low fuel warning light glow. The owner's manual says at approximately 2 gallons left. I drove the vette until the needle was...

Please take care of your baby (the Vette) after making it your own

i won't even take my Vette to the track. I did before, and after the third weekend, I saw a Cobra kit car (one of the most faithful recreations I had seen by then), hit the left wall a little after the 1/8 mile marker, and that convinced me to take Gail home. A car built for the track and...
