Help! No spark on an '86 Vette

As the tree said to the lumberjack, I'm stumped! Been trying to resolve this for 3 weeks... Car was running beautifully for last 2-3 years, parked it one night, next night, it cranks, but no start. I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor (it was time anyway), and no go. So I bought a spark...

    hatchback doesnt lift assist

The cylinders are really the only thing that can go bad. That glass is heavy! I seem to replace mine every 5 years or so. You can also oil them up a bit to see if that helps. Use automatic tranny oil and lightly coat the rod.

    84 OD 4+3 Question

Sure. On the 84 (and I believe on the 85) the switch is an on/off switch, while 86+ it's a normally open momentary switch. All the switch does is allow the ECM to turn the OD relay on and off, which then controls the OD solenoid in the valve body. So there's a thread of things to check if...

    will 85 4+3 work in 84

The 84 has a few things that the 85 is missing, such as a 1st gear switch.

    Cracked LCD, where to buy?

No, it's really LCD. The colors come from translucent plastic that is colored for each segment that is behind the LCD. Then you have the 4 halogen lights that backlight the whole thing. The LCDs are actually negatives of what you'd nomally think of, in that when nothing is displayed, all...

    Cracked LCD, where to buy?

It's nothing like that. The entire center LCD is one piece.

    Cracked LCD, where to buy?

Since I have the week off I thought I'd tackle some nagging problems on the vette. My dash ('86) has been flakey forever, flashing on and off, obvious ground problem. I took it out and apart, down to the last board, and 3 of the pin connectors had cold solder joints. I resoldered and did a...

    Cruise control Vacuum

I'm hoping I finally tracked down a vacuum leak that I've had FOREVER.... There are 2 vacuum lines going into the cruise control module. If I pull a vacuum on one of them, blocking the other, the module should hold a vacuum, correct? If I block both holes and push in and out on the module...

    Need some help

Since you listed what you worked on, are you sSure you don't have two plug wires crossed? If not, I would check to make sure they're all on firmly, and that spark is getting to each plug. If necessary, pull each plug and see if they've fouled.

    Getting the serpentine belt on

Whatever accessory has the smallest pulley (I think it's the alternator) should be the last device you pull the belt over. If he's pulling the tensioner to it's limit, there shouldn't be any problem.

    need help with new mods

Do you get any codes? You said you put an adjustable regulator in... what's the pressure set to? Unplug the MAF and try to start the car. This will force the computer into a "limp home" mode (after some coaxing with the throttle). If you can get it running, I would check out the MAF burnoff...

Real bad spark knock, then Service light?

IMO, the "computer junk" makes it EASIER to fix since you don't have to guess. Get a Helm manual, read the code, and follow the diagnostic flow chart in the manual.

    1986 Rear Emblem

Well, so far so good, after 1 month (and a couple of power washings). Why would I pay top dollar for foam tape when I could buy the entire logo (WITH the tape) for $40? You can't loose "some" letters, the whole logo is one piece.

The problem is that you have to trim it out in the shape of the lettering.

    original tires?

As long as it's a good quality tire, who cares about originality (unless you're showing the car, of course). Just get something that fits in your budget that YOU like. I had BF Goodrich on there the last 2 tire changes until they stopped making the model for the Vette. I think they were...

    How accurate?

I've found that the more mods I do to the car, the farther off it goes. Mine will read 25 when I'm getting 17. That 50% wrong!

    1985 Corvette Coupe Waxing

Where did you read that? A Vette isn't any different than any other clearcoat car. The whole point of wax is to block UV which can harm the basecoat. Clear DOES have a UV blocker, but waxing helps even more. In addition, wax will help protect the clear from crap sticking to it, like bugs and...
